right then, can somebody help me with his one please, since i now have a laptop, the desk top now is mainly used by the children,i have a broadband connection running through a belkin router which each "puter" shares, can anyone advise how i can view items in a sharedfolder on the desktop,by sitting upstairs on the laptop.... now me and computers are not the best of mates, had a guy in to set up the broadband modem,so i really do know my limits, easy task,or get someone in
with xp, click on 'my computer'. highlight the hard drive (c?), then RIGHT click it. from the drop down box, click sharing and security. then tick the 'share this folder on the network'. also click 'allow network users to change my files. should work depending on how the network was/is set up.

btw, this needs to be done on both computers and individual folders...ie my documents, my music etc.
The Belkin Router comes with a built in firewall and security so you should be safe as is possible from hackers. Make sure you have Anti spywear installed and a good Anti virus like AVG which is free from. www.grisoft.com. any probs just shout. Dave
