Ebay + Import Duty

Just a word of warning when buying goods off Ebay which originate from outside the EU.

i.e From China, Hong Kong etc in Sellers field.

You will get stung for Import Duty + VAT

In my case i bought a Roof Mounted TFT Screen for the Scorp.  The Import Duty is set at 14% (for Monitor Equipment capable of displaying Video)plus VAT on top of that at 17.5%

It all depends on how much Mr Chinky puts the value of the goods on the Customs Declaration.

For a full list of items and Duty, take a look at
http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/downloadFile?contentID=H MCE_PROD_009989

Just out of interest, note that Tobaco is set at 75%! Arent you glad you gave up  Grin

Hey Andy, Im Not sure about this but if you buy these goods from outside the EU
i don't suppose you get any guarantee with them for use in the UK either do you?

Matt, looking at the listing, did they charge you 60GBP for the other one even though you had only paid 40 for the one you had already bought!?

Nah, i bought the ones pictured as a pair, not separately as that example one is. Their deals are like the weather and i paid £118 all in all for them both last September.

The swivel mounting bracket which came with them (the small plastic bit mounted on the headlining in the corner with 2 screws which the sunvisor turns in) was useless so i took the old visors apart, drilled the centres out slightly larger and used the original scorpio visor mountings which meant a perfect fit and the screens were level.

well i havent recieved it yet so maybe they will put it down as a gift.  Bit dodgy tho according to the Customs website if ones parcel is subject to a random spot check!

Also to be able to be sent as a gift it has to be sent from a private individual so it all depends on whether they put Company Headed stickers all over the envelope.

How long did it take for yours to arrive Maz?  Any good?

from past experiences, you need to leave it at leat 16 working days before you start to panic..... Shocked
it can of course take less time 6-10 working days is a good guide

I buy my cigars from all over the world, Hong Kong, The US, Geneva, all over.
Out of over 100 transactions I have been hit once, get them as an obscure description, I have had measuring cups, art project, school work, gentlemens gifts, sex toys, anything.
The important thing is the value, under £12 you dont pay VAT or duty, get them to price it under that and if you get the green letter you have been most unlucky

Well today ended up in Result with a capital "R".

Roof mounted Screen arrived from China with no Import Duty!!

Opted for THIS item in the end as previous one had sold out.

Got the weekend to fit it now.  Should go well with Headrest Screens courtesy of Baz, plus Sunvisor monitor up front for the misses.

Oh + got the bonnet resprayed too for £130 !  Purfick
