hello gang, fancied a guiness tonight so went to the local tescos to get some. on the same shelf i noticed they had an offer on a drink called young's double chocolate stout! now guiness is usually about 4. something in strength but this stuff was 5.2,so fancying a challenge i bought four cans.and guess what,it does have a certain hint of a cadburys!even the can is purple in colour. so to any of you guiness drinkers out there this is highly recommended. only thing is now will i stay awake til the calzaghe fight at 2 am tomorrow morning?doubt it very much, cheers everybody! bob.

How does it compare to Hobgoblin, wich is "Full bodied & well balanced with a chicolate toffee malt flavour, moderate bitterness & a distinctive fruity character & ruby red glow." according to the bottle. Or in other words, red beer with an aftertaste of toffee. Doesn't taste bad at all, although difficult to find in Norway.

Bob, With the whiskey have you tried tomintoul its a 27 year old speyside and the smoothest dram ive tasted. And 75cl for about £50. Available from http://www.whiskyshop.com/Shop/Detail.aspx?pid=1985hiskey shop One word of warning once you have tasted it, nothing else seams to make the grade And for the red wines I do enjoy various spanish offerings Baron De Ley, being my fave get the one withe the labal that looks like its stamped into a bit of dull brass its normally around a tenner. Another good spanish one is campaneo but get the old vines garnache it has a label with gold at the top then a purple bit then a white bit. Its about £6. another goodun is marques de grinon again a rioja currently on offer at sainsbury's for about £6. As always let them breathe for at least two hours or even better decant them then let them breathe if you dont use a decanter pour out a glass full so that the wine in the bottle has a larger surface area to breathe with. Sorry if you already know that but if you dont it will make a real difference to the wine. Or on the other hand you could go down this route http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=OT;action=displa y;num=1141425409 And you will end up with a substance that is not smoothe but makes a good base for a margareta allegedly depending on what you brewed to distil in the first place of course. Feel free to pm me if you would like any advise on particular reds or for that matter having ago at brewing as this is yet another hobby of mine

Well my taste in wine is easy, I like the fizzy stuff and the cheaper it is the better it seems to taste I had a quite heated discussion with a waiter on a cruise ship once who tried to refuse to serve me white wine with steak because I should be having Red!! (Which I dont like!)

That is one waiter with a problem. If you wanted water would he have refused? A man knows his own taste and if you want wite wine with a steak then he should run and fetch it because that is what he is paid for. Where is the manager why dont you run and get him while your legs can still support your useless body. How long have you been in this job were you obliged to take it because your benefits would be stopped. Are you listening do you even understand english. Sorry, Sorry got a bit carried away there Cant stand poor service in any industry. we as consumers pay these peoples wages and the quesion should be how high should I jump sir and not what wine you choose to drink with a steak. Think I'll go for a little sit down now

thanks for the tips al, i'll try them out.never tried a spanish red over here, though i've been there numerous times. spending more than a fiver for a bottle of red.......! what do you do for the two hours you're waiting...temptation is a b.....d,never tried letting the wine breathe, but i have heard about it .i'll give it a go. my faves at the moment are any merlot and most cabernet sauvignons, the cheaper the better. i do like a single malt but £50 a bottle?too steep for me buddy, but would be interested in one a bit cheaper for the old man's birthday, let us know, cheers, bob.
