Very strange; the diesel should have the largest battery (higher compression ratios, glowplugs, etc.) In any case, a diesel battery will suffice as a replacement for whatever Ford put in the cossie. Darren

In principle diesels start harder, but there are only 4 cylinders. On the cossie there are 6 and a lot more valves, springs, tesioners.....

True, but only one cylinder is on compression at any one time, and that compression is lower on a petrol. Of course, the diesel engine also has more volume per cylinder than any of the petrols (2.5/4 compared to 2.9/6) - and glowplugs drawing 15A each whilst cranking!! The valve springs also tend to cancel each other out as one will be under compression as another is being released. I did have an old 2.8 Granada and that had a starter motor with built-in epicyclic reduction gears - not sure if the diesel starters have that or not but I don't think so. Darren

The original scorpio battery (097) is being phased out, many catalogues are cross referancing it to 095 which is 29mm longer, it will fit with a bit of messing about, but you may have to do away with the end clamp & just rely on the top strap. it is a bigger battery with higher out put though.
