Cossie Flat Out??

I'm sure someone has but has anyone ever fully 'topped out' their cossie? as this weekend i'm taking mine to Sculthorpe airfield in Norfolk to help marshal a rally which is being held there. In return the organiser said i could have some free time to drive around and go on the 2 and a bit mile long tarmac'd runway and was wondering what sort of top end speed i'd be looking at in my car  Grin  Grin  Grin

hi there

top speed was quoted at 140mph. taking everything into account, a real (gps) figure of 125/130mhp might be about right.

** you'll know yourself, but make sure everything is ok first! oil, gearbox, coolant, tyres, etc. **

hth

btw, was talk of a higher top speed by using the cc, but i don't know if you'll have enough room to try it. Undecided

ahh, you just reminded me about the tyres. The ones fitted i don't think are 'Z' (is it?) rated which could be a problem as i don't fancy a blow out. I'll remember the cc tip and see what it does. Just gotta remember to stop before the end!!

hi there

your tyres should be fine (v,w or z). they just need to last for 10 minutes at their rated top speed (150mph+). you won't be doing that speed for anywhere like 10 minutes, unless you try 2 runs and by that time your petrol tank will be empty!! Grin ROFL

Looks like they'll hopefully be ok then  Smiley

And yes, the trip computer will be on its temperature setting for the duration to save me having to be prescribed anti-depressants at the end  Wink  Grin

At roughly 5ish (most probably less) mpg full throttle i'll be incredibly lucky to get 2 runs out of a gallon at 2 miles a run  Shocked Lucky i was paid yesterday then  Cool

I have had 130mph on the clock of my cossie but I got to admit it felt slower.
However, the last time I did 130 was on my honda cbr 1000 so a car would feel slower than a bike

Well it has to be >126mph - that's what I got (indicated) out of a Y-reg Sierra 2.3 V6 estate.

Somebody told me they got 140mph out of a Sierra 2.9 4x4 estate - apparently the police T5 didn't manage or refused to keep up, but the court wouldn't allow them a copy of the report to frame!

I'd take those lights off the front to reduce drag a bit  Wink

But give it a good old go. Should be fun  Grin

Not sure if a 2 and a bit mile straight will be enough though  Undecided

That's one of the beauties of the scorpios. You can feel they're made for the Autobahn, as they just keep on accelerating even at 100+ MPH.

Well, i had a brilliant day out, can't think of many other better ways to spend a saturday afternoon sitting in the sun with the distant sound of straight through exhausts and straight cut gears filling the air, whilst watching Escort mk1's sliding round corners  Smiley Despite it being only April I did manage to get sunburnt somehow Undecided

Didn't quite manage to get flat out but manged a respectable 130 (The needle just about on the 130mph line). The reason being was that the military were setting up some tests on the main runway which put it out of bounds  Sad so i had to use one of the slightly shorter ones instead but with a run-up from around the corner. Did have a bit of a scare when i was going along one of the old concrete runways, because where the newer tarmac runway crosses the old one it is slightly raised to form a slight 'jump', of course i couldn't see it was there because there were tufts of grass between all the concrete slabs and so i hit it doing about 115-120 with an almighty crash, but luckily no damage was done. Phew  Smiley The only real damage done to my car that day was the transformation of my formerly road legal tyres into a pair of (nearly) racing slicks. All in the name of fun  Grin  Grin

Dave, I filmed 3 video's on my mobile, 2 of the scorpio and 1 of a stupidly quick mini which went like a remote control car, will post them shortly...

One lonely, quiet night on the A127 I was in my old '95 2.0 ghia (manual) & got 125mph. It was well into the red, so I didn't hold this speed for long.
The first time I really pushed my new 2.3 Auto, it blew out the fan sensor switch & I lost all my water.
Started driving like my Dad now....slow & easy....maaan
