Does anyone have any experience with the IAM I have been on there website and they will do a "drive check" for £25 that gives you one years affiliate membership. when I rang my insurance company they say I would have had a reasonable discount for being affiliated but a 25% discount for being a full member.
Anyone got full membership and are the benefits worth it financially?
I still fancy doing it irrispective of the financial ganes!

I know a couple of people who have done the police driving course at Hendon, & have passed. They have said that their insurance quotes were indeed lower.

Hi Al:

I have taken and passed the IAM's Advanced test, and have the Certificate.

It's a good scheme, and yes, there are insurance advantages (vary from company to company). Some, on the other hand don't recognise it. but then I didn't use them, so their loss.  Cheesy

The main thing it teaches is how to drive confidently whilst always being aware of every single thing that's going on around you.

Has it made me a better driver? Yes, undoubtedly, but I'd never get complacent about it.

Has it made me a safer driver? Yes again, because I see things now that I have been trained to look for.

For example. Do you know that all corners you drive round are actually straight lines?  Shocked

You also get far more of a sixth sense about what other road users are about to do. It's quite uncanny sometimes.

Well worth doing the course.  Smiley

Its been in the back of my mind to do it for years now.
I was going to do it with the bike when I had it. at the time 3 of the lads did but work commitments stopped me.
I noticed on the site they will require both parts of youre driving liscence before a test, I havn't seen the paper part of mine for years.
Wonder how much the dvla will rob me of for that then Angry

Cost me £19 for a replacement. You can do it over the phone if you have lost BOTH parts of your licence but it's a more involved form filling process if just one part of the licence is lost.

The guy who I originally spoke to at Swansea told me to "lose" the other part of my licence and apply for the lot.

An odd thing for a civil servant to have .... a touch of common sense and a dose of reality. Good on him

Hello,

My wife's an advanced motorist, but so far has had no luck getting lower insurance quotes!

Could people please tell me which insurance companies are offering lower quotes for IAM members?

Many thanks.

Roger.

IAMS is one of a few advanced driving courses. worth doing just to improve your driving, debateable whether you actually save on insurance as you have to take into account the cost of the IAMS programme.
if you can have a chat with a traffic cop, they should point you in the direction of various advanced driving courses and instructors recognised by them in your area.
