Don't you just hate it when someone leaves a voicemail with no name or number? Today i got one which said "hi, give me a call when you get this message". To make matters worse I accidentally erased the message instead of saving it for a replay in case I recognised the voice...

Almost certainly one of these Rip-Off voicemail SCAMS. MOBILE phones, like the internet, have the potential to make our lives much easier. But they also have the potential to cost us a lot of money. Unfortunately there are many unscrupulous operators ready to use our obsession with instant communication to make money. Although in the UK call-rates are set, no such rules apply to overseas operators. They know this, and they exploit it. The latest scam doing the rounds involves mobile phone owners getting a message about a missed call and being invited to call a certain number. The upshot of this is an automatic diversion to a premium call service and a large cost added to their phone bill. Once you've called the number, it's too late to do anything about it, the charge has been made. It can be anything up to a horrendous £10.00 a minute, and you will certainly get charged for at least one minute if not more. The warning is clear — if you don't recognise the number ignore it or pay the price. Some of these scams can cost over £10.00 a minute if you connect to them.

much like the phone scams doing the rounds in the USA for years, where people are asked to dial what appears to be a national number (starting with a 9 i recall) but it's routed offshore to the carribean which also has that code. in this case it wasn't a scam as the voice seemed vaguely familiar and it referred to my first name... It also didn't leave a number. Was probably my brother who I rarely speak to by phone... Thanks for the heads up on the scam tho
