Just in case anyone was thinking of having a bid, they are sprayed with a tint spray by the looks and will be technically illegal to put on the car!

yeah, i notice he doesnt use the term facelift anywhere, and does describe them as tinted. as you say would probably be illegal, not to mention poor beam quality...

They look bloody awful anyway Wink

I don't get all this fuss over the facelift look, sure it looks nice but so does the chrome grille and untinted lamps on the pre '98, esp. in tourmallard, state blue or ash...

Mine is a standard late '96, not sure I'd want to mod it Undecided

Just a thought, are the front indicator/fog cluster on the facelift the same as the pre? Saw a '98 Ultima for sale the other night and the bumper has a tighter curve around the corners yet the lamps look the sameHuh

I agree. I don't really give a toss about faceliftedness. I am quite happy with the chrome, it gives a nice shine when cleaned up. I guess the chrome touch may have come from the States where it is much more popular than here.

The cluster is the same but fogs on my facelift are blackened like the headlamps, but indicators look the same. Smiley

Aye Jonny, the latter fogs aren't tinted, the reflector tarnishes as with the older ones Smiley

Had a cracked fog when I bought my car, bought a new one from FMD, (£50 Shocked), great but now I have one nice shiny silver one and one dull black one. Bothered the hell out of me until I realised the new one was tarnishing too, something had to be done...

Got both stripped down and resprayed the reflectors silver, now they both match and don't tarnish either Wink

I have some photos if anyone is interested Wink

What I mean: New vs. old surrounds, drove me mad having one silver and one dull black, newer one is tarnishing on the pic.

And the finished result:

Really bugged me, car looks much better with them both silver.

Bruce,

the facelift bumpers are different both in shape and size. They are not as bulbous as the earlier ones and do infact make the car slightly longer by a few mm.

As for the fog lights, there are two different types, one with the chrome background and one with the black. I have a set of each, both brand new and still in the boxes so it isn't due to fading or tarnishing. The darker ones were fitted mainly to the facelift cars but not exclusively by the looks of things

Thanks for making that clear Baz, mine were silver but the new one did start to tarnish like the old one (you can see it in the top picture), can't be through the heat of the bulb because I've never used the fogs. All done anyway, they suit the car better the colour they are now Smiley

The facelift bumpers are sleeker looking, take some of the goofiness out of the front end, I do like my chrome grille though Wink

Tips on getting them apart: remove the flange on the plastic case and slowly lever the glass out and cut the mastic as you go, not easy Undecided. Sand 'em down, prime and paint and get some clear glazing silicone to stick them back together.

Regards, Bruce.

I prefer the facelift front, but also prefer the chrome grill of the old ones.

Thinking about doing a pre-facelift job on it Grin

On the saloons esp the darker colours I personally much prefer the clean lines of the facelift version. As for the fronts I'm happy with either but prefer the chrome grill of the prefacelift and the bumper of the post facelift!

Same here Paul, i can decide which i like best, there are a lot of modded combinations out there but i seem to like them all Smiley

I think it depends on the colour too, some lights/bumpers.grill look better depending on the colours.

Baz's Silver saloon looks great, as does AndyB's silver estate but I do like a nice black facelift, they look completely different cars though Smiley

Agree

I like 'em all, would love to pick up another one if it wasn't for all the problems I had with mine. The shape of the Scorpio has grown on me greatly over the years, no idea what people find so ugly about them when you look at some of the newer cars on the roads today, some of the varied comments I got over the 3D model on the RSC forum weren't too bad either.

My opinion is just that I'm happy to keep mine original, thought more than once about fitting leather to mine but the Ultima raven velour trim is very nice Smiley

The new colours and wheels suit the later cars nicely, not that I'd refuse if someone donated a '94 2.9 though Smiley

My facelift is Mid Atlantic Blue. Not seen this colour on the old Scorp.....looks fantastic when polished. Smiley

Was at an American car show recently, & when we went back to the Scorp there were two guys hanging around it.
...."Got a Scorp me-self mate, but never seen one in this colour".....
Didn't know how to reply....so just said.."yeah.....it's blue" Grin
