5th gear chip fat land speed record

What a load of rubbish, it didn’t even top a ton! My chip fat burning derv does that in 4th gear no pro-blemo (and that’s with all the seats in). They make the excuse that its done 200k miles on regular diesel, my scorp had done 204k when I got at and since then running on the ole fat oil its now a few hundred under 230k and still going strong!!

The most I’ve managed was 120 on a verrrry long straight in Germany, off to guinnessworldrecords.com to see how one goes about officially setting the record  Wink first scorpio in the record books?

Matt

p.s. Did anyone else think that Porka 911’s front bumper look like a Halfords boy racer special?

We could set up some boat racing on chip fat and invite 5th gear along to show them what really can be done!! Seats in situ of course.

The main reason for having the heater is when it gets really cold the oil thickens and starts to turn to jelly if no thinners are added, which puts extra strain on the fuel pump and injector pump  NoNo heating it thins it out without additives and makes it easier to pump and squirt  Cool

The scorp has a small electric fuel heater already fitted (its the small black box like object with a small multiplug near the fuelfilter) and it works just fine at english winter temperatures.

I was thinking of adding another standard electric heater i have lying around but i've fitted an extra (more reliable) water heater instead and plumbed it into the coolong system. As of yet i havn't actually needed to plumb it into the fuel line as the standard heater seems to cope well.

Remember to filter it to at least 5 microns!! Less if you can. I always buy new clean oil so i don't have to worry about filtering and the water content or anything else untoward lurking in there  Lips Sealed its more expensive but its a whole lot easier  Cool

JC, its perfectly legit to run on cooking oil, so long as you pay the tax on it  ROFL  NoNo

When you see how much money he makes on fuel i'm sure you will  Wink

Matt

EDIT: Just remembered, you'll probably need a waste licence to carry the used oil and you'll have to show the chippie it or they could get into trouble with paperwork and showing they have legally got rid of it and not down the drain. I think they're about £140 for 3 years.

i have now been running on a mix of chip oil and diesel, the only notable real difference is the tickover is slightly higher, the engine feels possibly a tad smoother and there seems to be less visible emissions, i.e. smoke.
i have noticed that when im sat in traffic i can smell a chip shop......

lol, in the summer people following me home after work come in the next day saying they felt like having chips for dinner  Kiss

Think of it this way, that chip shop smell is what you're breathing in, i'd rather have the aroma of a chippie than breathing in carcinogenic diesel fumes.

Have you been using new oil?

Sunflower oil is best in winter because its thinner than veg oil, but costs a bit more. After running it on oil for a bit you'd be best to change the fuel filter if not done in a while because the oil removes all the crud build up in the fuel system (so i read). You'll need to change it quite alot (like on 5th gears merc) if you're using used oil which is another reason i don't use old stuff.

Apparently, because veg/sun oil is a better lubricant than derv even just adding a few litres to a full tank of diesel will prolong the life of the injector pump's internal componants. With mine on over 230K that can't be a bad thing  Grin
