my good friend runs a 10 year old mercedes S320 and needed two wiper blades,he tried all the usual, halfords, local motor factors,my unipart garage, all unavailable. he finally got them at mercedes UK local franchise. The price a whopping £100.85p and that was with a10% discount. Are mercedes taking the p**s or what. i put two on my scorpio for the dec mot, total £7.50p .Don,t think i fancy a merc now!!(can you still buy replacement rubbers for wipers, been a d**n sight cheaper)

another mercedes story, apparently some of the diesel engine glow plugs, the long thin ones, either 8mm or 10mm ,when they stop working cannot be replaced as they snap off and cannot be removed from the head, even with easyouts and helicoils. when my mates unipart garage asked the local mercedes franchise if they had any problems with these glow plugs they said yes they had but dont attempt a repair because of the difficulty involved, instead they just fit new cylinder heads,WH..............AT.sledgehammer and nut spring to mind. nice to know the scorpio isnt complicated isnt it ??

I know a Vauxhall Vivaro van just over two years old that needed that, engine management light came on, needed heater plugs replaced, ended up having the head removed at a cost of over £1500 (Eventually waived by Vauxhall)

The same with BMW and Audi, service and main dealer parts horror stories if you look on the net. Mercedes have had build quality issues lately, I'd steer clear of anything post 2001. Older Mercs are fairly well built but no character, no soul...just big, cumbersome and sterile Far more fun (and cheaper to boot...) to buy a Scorpio, at least you never get bored when you want sdomething to fix . Regards, Bruce.
