Smoke Detectors! Thank God for it!!

I'll be offline for a few days. Doing this from work.
Early Wednesday morning, the smoke detector went off.
All bleary eyed, checked the house, and there was definitely an acrid smell coming from the living room.
Our Wanadoo Mains adaptor connecting to the Livebox, had gone into meltdown. It's damaged the box itself due to overheating.
Back soon...when we receive replacement equipment from Orange..........but thank God we were alerted to it before it got to the FIRE stage!!

Switch mode power supplies are prone to meltdown if anything goes wrong 
Probably doesn't make you feel any better but it should self-extinguish once it's flared up, the acrid smell and smoke is the worst part of it
A good bit of advice to anyone, get at least one smoke detector - and a carbon monoxide detector too, a lifesaver if you have a boiler of gas fire in a closed room...I know from experience

Hi all. Back on line again!! 
VERY nasty experience. If YOU don't have a smoke detector, GET ONE. I mean that very kindly and very sincerely. It probably saved us from a very nasty, or even fatal incident. We also have a Carbon monoxide detector near the boiler for the same reason.
What price a couple of 9v batteries a couple of times a year.................................!! 
Had the electrician in a couple of days ago. All wiring in the house is sound. Fault was in the Livebox adaptor, and was at 'smoulder stage'. All OK now. New equipment arrived today.
