just cleaned my cooker hood and cooker, hate the job, and i've just found the best thing to cut through dirt n grease etc is alloy wheel cleaner, i use lidl's W5 alloy wheel cleaner, it was only 99p or 1.99 (cant remember) for a half litre spray bottle.....it does a pretty good job on car wheels too.....

mer is a versatile german car polish, pretty good stuff, but the best i've found is joffs classic carnuba wax sold on ebay, around the same price, but far better than mer, autoglym, crystal glo etc....

Tiberius "MER" is what you buy if you own a mini (old type) and your next door neighbour has the annoying habit of repeatedly setting fire to your bonnet. Joking apart, my colleague swears its the best poss. polish if you have a black car..............I've never used it but suspect it would have to go some to beat Autoglym "red label" Regards DH Dove

I bought some Joffs carnuba on Ebay last year & I have to admit, it is by far the best car polish I have ever come across....I used to be a Mer-man (no, I haven't got webbed feet) I've used it a couple of times & the results were so good that I'm scared to use it again, incase my bottle runs out.....the polish that is & not my stamina Mer is still great for doing windows though, both outside & inside....& great on chrome.... not too much of that on the Scorp though, but plenty on my MK1 Granny

My favourite cleaning 'find' is Dettox Mould and Mildew spray available in all supermarkets. This stuff cleans the grouting between tiles in showers like nothing I've ever seen. Just spray on, leave for 30 mins, and then spray away with the shower head. Really incredible. Smells a bit, but really does the business. It's also brilliant for spraying on garden furniture, and gets rid of greeny winter marks and all that crud that gets on garden tables. Dunno if I'd risk it on the Scorp though!!

Does anyone know what gets the black spots off the mastic around the bath ? I've not found anything yet that will shift it, & when you try to scratch it off, it takes the mastic out as well This is a hard water area, so it's obviously due to scaling...

Simmo.....I've tried the Dettox stuff & that dosen't shift it. The mould isn't on the surface of the mastic, it's like it's in it....it's almost like the mastic has reacted to something The mastic is supposed to be guarateed mould resistant for 10 years.....it's only been there for three years

I have seen this happen after only one year.I work in the building trade and the times I have had to remove the old sealant and renew it is ridiculous. All I can say is if the mould is embedded in the sealant then the only way is to remove and reseal. But you must make sure that the bath edge to tile is totally dry and leave new sealant at least 24 hours to cure.Roy.

Seen it here too Get yourself a tube of silicone eater to help remove it and get a good quality sealant to replace it with...like the ones which cost a tenner a time Dove, I love my black paintwork but the moment I even put the car cover on it looks like it's not been touched for months...I was thinking about one of those paint protection systems they sell on eBay...yes, I've had a drink tonight, in gullible mode now . Something's been used on the Jag though, it gets filthy dirty but the rain always beads off like it's been polished. I guess in its previous life as a fleet car it got machine polished to death but really, it's too shiny, even before the Autoglym . But so was the Scorpio come to think of it, I've really had too much to drink I reckon...that was too shiny as well. I love my Autoglym, would take a lot to tear me away from it...but may get a bottle of er...Mer and see if anyone sets fire to my bonnet Regards, Bruce.
