Red Arrows Due for the Chop

Apparently some bright spark has decided that as a nation we can no longer afford to pay for the Red Arrows, this despite the fact that we can waste billions on, for example ID Cards, Computer Systems for the NHS that no-one wants and dont work anyway, supporting God knows how many illegal immegrants on benefits etc. etc. etc. Angry
I know that Downing Street Petitions are of a sudden passe, but if you wish to you can sign up here

Thats a d**n disgrace.
There are endless places where tax payers money is wasted day in day out, but something worthwile like the red arrows is seen as an  unnecessary drain on resourses is criminal.
I have copied this from their web page, seems convincing enough to me.

Acknowledged as one of the world’s premier aerobatic teams, The Red Arrows are the public face of the Royal Air Force. The Red Arrows exist to demonstrate the professional excellence of the RAF and promote recruitment to the RAF. Evidence shows that The Red Arrows have inspired a significant number of people to join the RAF, both as officers and airmen, and to all trades, not just aircrew.

The Team contributes to Defence Diplomacy, and supports wider British interests through the promotion of British industry overseas. The Hawk aircraft flown by the Team and most of its components are all British made. Thus during overseas tours The Red Arrows demonstrate both British skill and British technology to an enormous number of people each year.

My name is on the petition

When I was a little kid, my Dad was a photographer in his spare time. An ex-RAF chap, his first love was fighter aircraft and he used to take me all over the place to airshows to see the likes of the Vulcan, Nimrod and Red Arrows...many happy memories Smiley. We've lost too much of our heritage already, if we don't stop soon, we've lost everything Sad

This tiny little country has been proud of so much yet we're losing everything we own through the likes of Blair's republican leadership - from our automotive, ship building and steel industry to our stockmarket and even utility companies being sold to foreign ownership...if we don't stop soon the UK will be devolved into dozens of states fighting against each other while the powers that be bleed us dry and we become just another star on the flag of the United States of Europe.

I love this country but when I look at the way it's going I wouldn't want my kids growing up in our society...can't even get a job unless I'll work for peanuts and the state of this country makes me sick at times. If I ever get the chance I'm off, would be hard but I've been thinking about it lately, get out before I'm too old and un-employable Smiley

Sorry for rant chaps, I feel quite strongly about this Wink

Mmm, strongly enough to forget some salient chronological facts, our Auto, steel, coal and shipbuilding industries were well   knackerered  long before Blair was out of short trousers,  by that  free market  capatalist  Tory Government we suffered  from between 1979 - 1997.

Floppy...

Unfortunately that is all history now.... people vote for what they see; not what Maggie or Major did. Kids who first voted back in 97 are now 28 years of age and all they see is a lying coniving Labour government who wants to screw as much money out of the working man as they can.

Long gone are the days of the tory miners strike and the days of the Labour 3 day week and power cuts. Governments have to do what is right now, unfortunately this labour government is more self, self self than any tory one I ever remember.

Labour ministers pension pots in excess of 2 million pounds but exept from the taxes of similar private funds. 35% MP pay rises when inflation is at 5% or so... that is the labour government of today, it isn't the fanciful socialist dreams of Kinnock and Foot of the past; this is real new labour, fleece the working man and give it all to whoever wants a hand out.

That is whjat they are relying on for their votes now; the spongers and minority votes along with the die-hard labour voters.

Thankfully it won't wash... labour is almost bankrupt and Brown won't go to the country to affirm his position as he rightfully should because they can't afford it and they know that their time is up. That's why they are all feathering their nests ready for the enivitable push

Thats my rant over... and yes I remember... I remember very well when petrol wasn't a pound a gallon and when gas wasn't so high in price that pensioners froze to death because they couldn't afford the heating. When Polish road signs only existed in Poland and when criminals were treated as criminals and not as victims under human rights acts and european directives.

Look long and hard at what labour has subjected this country too and then capitalism looks all to inviting I'm afraid Wink Wink

Hi Chaps, just my 2 cents worth. I've been reading on the internet about this issue and many other issues concerning triple road tax for SUV's and big cars, Tracking boxes!Huh!? 50 pounds for an MOT Shocked 50 pounds for a darn re-test Shocked Insurance rates through the roof, SARS speed camera's!!! UK has highest living costs in the world!!!

What the hell is going onHuh? I’ve only been in the states for about 3 years now. Cant believe what’s happened in 3 years. Has Tony and his bunch gone mad? I really don’t see how on earth I could afford to come back to the UK. I'm born and bread Leeds and am still a proud Brit even though I decided to pack up and move across the pond but I got to tell you, Britain is finished as far as I’m concerned. How much of this c**p can the British take? my parents even have to pay an additional 50 pounds per ticket to fly out of England to see me. Gordon Brown calls this a pollution tax!!!!!

Sorry for the rant guys, it just hurts to see how our country is being screwed of ever single penny anyone has. No wonder so many people want to move else ware!!

It's true,  Labour  is woefully  soft on  crime  and  soft on the serially unemployed .
The  ever growing culture of  the feckless and  apathetic who think the country owes them  a   handout,  with vast areas of our cities living off   jobseekers   allowance  ( ha, there's a laugh )    and  bogus  incapacity  benefit.

Fortunately, I quite like living here,   so  I  won't  become   a    economic  migrant,  searching  the  world  for  a   country  where  the property is cheaper, the weather is warmer  and  I  don't  pay any  tax.

( till you get old,  and come back to  be a  burden  on the  Great  British   NHS   Kiss)

Alas Mr Floppy, maybe so. But Blair hasn't done anything to stop the decline of our industry; Rover has died, Vauxhall and Ford among others has closed production sites in the UK and we've also lost ship building firms, apart from the decline of Corus steel which is now under foreign ownership. Make a tally of all the British firms which have gone broke or moved abroad in the past 9 years and then work out how much damage this has done to our economy and you have quite a good idea where this country is heading. You can't blame the likes of China and India for picking over the bones of our industry and taking what they want for themselves, it's the fault of the people we elect who have let this happen again and again (remember Blair and the Mittal steel company?).

Most of our steel comes from either India or China nowadays, a far greater portion than when Labour came to power in '97. We even ship our rubbish to China now so they can recycle it and sell it back to us in new goods, surely this makes a mockery of the green recycling thing. We're being gradually squeezed by stealth taxes and the cost of living while countries like China with booming economies and populations take all our work while our people for whatever reason can't get re-employed once the firms they work for up sticks and move to greener plains.

I might have been born yesterday in your eyes but I still feel strongly about what I see happening Wink

Well, my theory is quite simple. Any government is an even bigger collection of self-serving, nest-feathering, lying to553rs than the last lot.

'nuff said.

Vote? Fnarr! Fnarr! Give us a bigger bung than the other lot and I'll think about it  Wink
