Hi all, just wondering if anyone else is having problems with the DVLA.  I recently received a nice letter telling me my car had been impounded due to having no tax Roll Eyes, and that it was parked on a main road, strange thing  is that i sold the car over 4 years ago, and have the letter still from the DVLA to say i was no longer the registered owner Cool.
THEN
My parents stopped getting tax reminders, on calling them they was told that there car had been written of and it was infact a rover and not a focus, hmmmm Roll Eyes.
The latest is i now own a citroen van which is about to have an out of date sorn, now either im loosing the plot or someting weird is going on here
anyone else going mad too

Yes I agree. For those who are not aware......NEVER put a photo of your car on the Web until you have blanked out the number plates on your pictures. Never put up pictures of your VIN plate or any other ID marks stamped into or on to the vehicle. This includes etched registrations on windows.

You can use any graphics programme to do this. Paint (In Windows), or Irfanview (Free, and possibly the best picture editor going), are just two.

Also avoid putting any information about your precise location. Scroats will use all they can get when 'cloning' a vehicle.  Wink

SD....

That is all very well, but just go and stand on any motorway bridge for 10 minutes and you will have all the details you need. Just posting a photo on the internet with your reg number blanked out won't stop them... they could spot your car on the street and get the number and on modern cars, even the VIN number is shown in the windscreen!!

I got stopped by the Police last November whilst driving my Iveco van. They told me my reg plates where not for my vehicle but for a Vauxhall Astra. What Huhplod did another check and came back to me and apologised,he had got one digit wrong when he had done the check.Trust me to find the only dislexic cop. In defence of the DVLA...(although why I'm posting this heaven only knows).......
They are LOADS BETTER than they used to be and are almost on the ball.
I guess there will always be problems but with the data they have to crunch I think that nowadays they're almost there...........
IMHO Huh

Agree AgreeTotally agree, my parents rely on there car and are now frightened to use it.  The DVLA even got nasty with me when i phoned up for them, its now sitting there un taxed because of the DVLA, even tho it was under 2 years old when they bought it.  Insurance comp says its lajit, so does the MOT centre, like macroys problem, someone probably put one wrong digit in

I'm with Baz on this one. You can't hide your reg or your vin when you leave the car on the street so why worry. A photo of your car on t'interweb can't really be a problem Undecided

As for any other problems. Surely the burden of proof is on them, if it's legit then use it. If they won't tax it and they're wrong then write to your MP - they must be useful for something  Wink

When I sold my old Scorp at Chelmsford car auctions the DVLA sent me a letter confirming that they had acknowledged that I was no longer the registered owner & that it had been logged in their database.

So why did I receive two speed camera fines from the MET police a few months after I had sold it?

The answer is simple....the DVLA are quick to inform you, but slow to inform the police of any changes of ownership  Roll Eyes

P.S.....I was let off the speeding fines, as I provided proof from the DVLA & Chelmsford car auctions that I no longer owned the car  Smiley

The problem being here is, the DVLA & police database's don't seem to be connected with each other & updated accordingly....so innocent people still get harrassed for doing the right thing & the dodgy car dealer still gets away with it  Roll Eyes
