thinking of taking the plunge and going plasma screen with sky HD,  blue ray DVD and full 7.1 surround sound system ,i know blue ray dvds are in short supply at the mo but it is supposed to be the way forward. any one on this site gone that way and are they impressed, i certainly was when i had a demo in the shop, the quality and clarity of the pic was astonishing.

This is a really tricky subject.. the battle between HD DVD (red cases) and blu-ray (blue cases) is still ongoing, it doesn't look like it'll change for a long time.. check out which disc type is most available at your favourite shops.

YES with the sound system - that's got to be one of the most cost-effective transformations to the home cinema type experience, it'd work wonders on your films.

Plasma screens are another tricky subject... look into the electricity costs, apparently they're fairly huge. They also generate a lot of heat.. the screens will burn you.. if you have young kids then maybe that'd be a concern?
Some people say the technology is still in its infancy as well.. got to think about bulb life and the risks of burned in images..

That said, a friend has a 50" plasma mounted on the wall, it is absolutely stunning, and at the end of the day if you've got the money then go for it!

Ooh beware of HD specs.. to be technically HD, the screen only has to be 720p.. which means the vertical pixel count is 720. FULL HD is 1080p, and the difference in quality is massive, as far as I'm concerned!

i would be more interested in lcd than plasma, what i've seen of them they're a much sharper image.
as for blu-ray/hd it might be worth waiting a while to see which one takes off? like vhs and betamax (interestingly betamax was far better quality).
the 7.1 sound is deffo worth it, i've got it on my pc; 20 quid for the sound card and the speakers start at around 50 quid....

i know the lcd pic is to slow when watching sport , can be a bit blurry as it tries to catch up whereas plasma is sharp, as for running costs they are about the same, reliability is stated as 60,000hrs ,,,,thats a lot of tv watching,,,,,,,,,,,,, well ,wellies on i,m taking the plunge!
