Dopey Dealer!

Hi everyone

Just thought I'd write a quick note to you all about a certain dealership in the Swindon area!

These knowledgeable spotty youngsters in shirts and ties that sit behind a desk asking if you require assistance, can't actually assist!  This is my second visit to the same parts department where they have (on both occasions), treated me as though I know nothing about my beloved Geraldine.

On the first visit I was told by no less than three mechanics (alleged), that my gearbox did NOT have a filter and they proceeded to sell me an 'add on' bodge kit, I returned this and spoke with the senior mechanic who told me that if there was indeed a gearbox filter then it was not meant to be changed, I eventually left after showing them details of this filter (that I obtained from this site), and eventually I got what I requested.

However, I recently went back to the same dealer (this area is very thin on the ground as far as Ford dealerships are concerned, so I had no other option).  I asked them for a price for a thermostat........ are you ready for this.............

MY CAR DOESN'T HAVE ONE!!!!!! NoNo

I argued (again), for several moments and told the spotty little twit that I had seen the 'stat with my own googley eyes! But he wasn't having any of it, why? Probably because I am a woman and I can barely find the driver's door on my car let alone the bonnet! I eventually walked out of the parts department and advised them, 'I'd like to say that you have been of assistance, but I can't'.

I must apologise for the anger that has been portrayed in this thread but I feel that I need to vent off!

Thank you for taking the time to read this and good night to all Scorpio's and God bless.

yet another reason i never use garages! they prob dont know what the scorpio is, they were in primary school when it was released lol. i kinda like the challenge of sourcing the part to, and of course beat the inflated prices for stick on everything!

the cossie stats arnt cheap though, as im sure you are aware they are a special t shaped unit (an looking at one closely, internally they seem to be 2 stats together linked with a pin in the center!)

Sums up everything I've always said about garages in general.

If it's easy, they'll fix it (badly) and charge you a fortune.

If they can't then out comes the bluff and bull excrement.

Good on you girl!!  Cheesy

I think that it is only fair that all Ford staff are made aware of Ford's back catalogue for at least the last 20 years! (That should keep them entertained Grin)

I've just purchased another Cossie lump to keep me in basic spares for a while, it's gonna be a loooonnnngggg weekend! But at least I won't waste my time in a certain parts department for a bit!

(I would like to mention though, another smaller Ford dealership in Tetbury, has been more than helpful and shown me respect even though I am still learning about my pride and joy and these are the people that I commend). Smiley

But I don't have a garage, I have to dismember it this weekend into bite size pieces and put it down the cellar! I may start to run it on wine!

You're  best going to a  well established independant motor factors, while they may not carry the more obscure Scorpio bits and  their interior decor and  personal hygiene may not be as  clean  as your local FMD,   they sure as  ****  know   what they're  talking about.

Matt, you're forgetting that both of us were in primary school when the Scorp was released Roll Eyes Grin

Best mechanic we knew was a chap on the Barking Road, used to work out of a scruffy 'hole in the wall' type place. But he knew his stuff and was genuine, got the Capri going more than once when other people were baffled. Let it go due to health reasons, garage has changed ownership more than once since...not sure if it's still as good Undecided.

I had that with FMD and the 24v stat before Smiley
The microfiche shows the "thermostat housing" in the top front centre of the engine but no stat in it, although the Smiley
Still I did have to tell them where it was Wink

Hi Geraldine,
I've had mixed experiences from the Andover and Salisbury FMD's ranging from absolutely brilliant to a waste of space and it all seems to depend on who is serving at the counter at the time. Best bet is to find out which staff are the most respectful and helpful (and there is always one that shines out) and then ask for them by name when you visit.

Best one i ever had at my local FMD was when i popped in to pick up an oil filter and came back out to find two young FMD mechanics wandering round the car before asking me what it was!!  Grin

Had a similar experience a couple of years ago.

Pulled into local FMD in my MK1 Granny. As I got out I could see a few staff staring at it through the window.

Walked into the parts dept, got me bits & went to walk out when one of the saleswomen asked me if my car was an Australian Ford, as neither she nor her collegues had ever seen one before  Huh

Before I could answer, a young salesman piped up & said to her smuggly......"Derr...ain't you ever seen a MK3 Cortina before"  ROFL ROFL
