Matt, it already has power steering......."what ?"  Shocked.....I hear you say..... Yes P/S did exist in 1977  Wink

Although the reservoir is a little crude though.....looks like a saucepan (no handle), with a metal lid held on with a wing nut  Cool

Jonny - what's that other grill in the centre of the parcel shelf ? Is that the original speaker that Ford placed into the back of the Granny in those days ?  Cheesy

I remember my Mk1 Escort 1.3L having just the one speaker placed exactly where that grill is - god alone knows why Ford decided to place it there when every other car I remember from that period had the sole speaker under the front shelf. With it being quite a noisy car anyway, any motorway speed required volume 10 before you could hear it.

Yep, that's the original speaker (still in there).....in those days the Ghia model still only came with a mono radio  Smiley

There's also a front speaker mounted under the dash....so driver & front seat passenger could listen to the Bay City Rollers in glorious mono as well  Grin

My    '73   2.0lt   Granny   had no power streering  although  it was geared  down and  wasn't  that heavy even  at parking speeds.  Took  4 turns lock to lock though.

Loved that car,    a rust free  body but at only 77K miles, the engine  was  completely broken.

I was gonna  say a   typical  Dagenham Dustbin,   but  ( I think ) all  Granadas  and Consuls  were   German  made.

So Ford had the audacity to actually put 2 speakers in but not a stereo radio?? Disgusting!! And it was the flagship Ford!! What decade was this - the '70's ?? Grin

That would be a hell of a stereo note though if you had the sound alternating front to rear. Grin At motorway speeds, the sound would momentarily disappear from half the car, then re-appear.

Don't forget, back in the 70's a radio was an optional extra in many cars - standard mono radio was only for the top of the range model ! Even then most were still manual tune and push-button was extra ! Lucky to have even one speaker if you ask me - luxury !Tell the kids of today stories like that and they won't believe you...

And ten or so years earlier then that a heater would be an optional extra too, just shows how lucky we are....

Yes ! My very first car, an old 1973 Sunbeam Rapier fastback my father gave me when I was 16 ( it was his - head gasket had gone and he couldn't be bothered to get it fixed ). It had a 'push to squirt' thing which was also the wiper switch - I soon converted it to electric pump operated by using a wiper motor switch from a laster Hillman Hunter.

When I was a kid, my aunt had a base model 1982 Fiesta Popular...950cc, beige PVC interior, one of the few Fiestas and Sierras made in 'Rio Brown' (the colour they discontinued a year later, apparently after people dubbed it nuts* Undecided)

One of the last cars to have a foot operated windscreen wash, also had one of the old style metal number plates with the plastic letters stuck on, no radio, no fog lights and no rear seatbelts...

,,,but I thought it was really chic back then, sounded almost like a 2 stroke but had loads of character Wink

Regarding rear seat belts...

The seat belts that can be seen running over the rear seats aren't standard.

Some MK1's had rear seat belts (mine didn't), but they were the slack kind which were top-bolted to the rear pillars.

Mine has the rear pillar screw holes for those seat belts, but I decided to fit brand new after market inertia belts at £40.00 each (came with thick plates for mounting behind rear seat)....they seemed like a safer option for the littl'uns baby seat  Wink

LOL Grin

Asking because I'm being nagged about getting the Capri hauled out of the garage, was thinking how it'd compare to the Scorp as a driver, with the Ford C3 and the old 4 pot Pinto lump in there Undecided

I remember it used to do 20-22 to the gallon in town, used to rev to 3200rpm with the auto choke on cold mornings and the autobox survived being emptied twice at the roundabout on the A406 at Barking in rush hour..I was seriously thinking a couple of years back about dropping an Essex into it, our Venetian Red 3.0 Ghia was great.

But I have a lot of fond memories of it, cuts too deep to think about letting it go. I know I should but I remember the day back in April 1990 (I was all of 6 years old at the time Roll Eyes) when I went with my old man to pick it up from a place called 'Priory Cars' on the Barking Road...

It's been around for so long and means so much in sentimental ways that I can't let it go but I know I should.. Undecided
