It was the coolest looking thing, but no-one could sort out the fuel injection when it packed up

Back in about 1975 I worked in a scrap yard (Willinghams of Hull) for about a year, it was at the time when taxi drivers were buying all the spares of grannies and consuls, we would get a car in at say 10am, and by 12.30 it would be stripped to the shell, they used to cue up for the bits, we used to put the car on four barrels and literally burn everything off.....
As i read this post I wonder if this is why they are getting so rare, maybe I should buy one.....

Update....It appears the car was last on the road in 1990 according to the DVLA vehicle check.

That coupe is exactly the same colour as my mate's old car - and the same reg letter. That one is a ghia, isn't it ?
I cannot remember the remainder of the plate on my mate's car but wouldn't it be wierd if it was the same one. To be honest, that would be such a long shot and a too smaller world - whilst you hardly see any today, it wasn't as if Ford sold only a couple of these. They were big sellers in their day - for what they were and their cost.
Like yours, Jonny, it seems amazing how modern they look - that coupe does not look like a 1974 vehicle. The big headlamps with the wrap-around indicators. The raked back windscreen with the single piece front door windows. Look at the Manta and Monza 10 years later - just a few cosmetic updates but hardly worlds away from the Mk1.
Ford were way ahead of their time in those days!!

Managed to dig out a couple of photos of the Capri .
Took them with the cheapo 35mm I had back then so not very clear...both photos circa mid 1995. They don't do the car justice...it was mint. Got some taken with my old man's Olympus gear from after it was smashed, can't find them at the moment.
Checked a few of our old cars on the DVLA, I always hoped to come accross the Mk2 he used to own back in the day...alas, the last time it was taxed was December 1990, not long after he sold it

I love the Jags for the power and handling, at 22 it makes for a great sleeper car....but I still think about the Capri, it has something about it which nothing else has, it holds a lot of fond memories too, I'd rather bury it under the patio than see it go the the bailer
If I resurrect it again I'd keep it stock, years back I wanted to Cartel bodykit it and put 17" rims on but as I'm getting older it looks good as it is, the old skool 14" alloys really suit it, don't think I'd change it from how it looks in the pics .
I even toyed with getting a Jag AJ16 lump and dropping it in, it would be dynamite with a 400nm engine in...but that just makes it into a lump, a bit of a thing in classic terms I guess  . A Jag's a Jag, a different creature entirely...I need to remember that
So, it stays bog standard except for better brakes and a few subtle mechanical tweaks....dropping a 24v+MT75 in was ok to think about but I think I'll keep the simple old Pinto lump, should be fairly easy to restore it I hope .

Keeping it standard is always a good idea. A standard classic car is always worth more than a modified one when coming to sell it.
My Granny is pretty standard, apart from the boot spoiler (on there when I bought it), Scorp speakers & a few other personalised bits & bobs....but I've no intention of selling it in the foreseeable future. To me, it's almost like a full size airfix model....a hobby that I do in my spare time
P.S....I had the same alloys on my Capri, but I'm sure they were 13" & not 14"

Jonny - does the other Ford badge come under the bits & bobs heading ?? 
Yeap - on the Capri shown, they were 13" alloys reserved for the Ghia and early "S" spec (until these went for 4 spokes) only on those. I think they fitted those to the Escort Ghias as an option.
The wheels which are rare beasts for these cars - if anybody remembers them - were fitted to the John Player Special or JPS Capris. Difficult to describe - but the Mk1 Granada ghias had them as a 5 stud - I can't see a piccie of your wheels, Jonny, but does yours have alloys.
