Thinking of changing my ISP

I'm thinking of changing my ISP.......

I've been with AOL since the year dot & they have always been okay (just okay  Roll Eyes), but they have really started to pee me off now....usual slow running problems that their technical dept do not have answers to, telling you that you've been up-graded to 2meg for free.....but there's no difference  Huh

Anyway, I've had enough of AOL now  Angry

Any suggestions for a good ISP that I should change to ?

JC. I am with Orange and recently the line failed. I spoke to their technical people EVERY DAY FOR THREE WEEKS before finally getting through to a chap in England who solved the problem in 24hrs. I only got his number by a lot of hard work and no thanks to the Orange 'system' !!. The fault was at the local telephone exchange...I had established that by other means!. The point is IF you are with BT they can and will sort the issue. If you are not they will do nothing unless directed to by your ISP and if you can't get them to move their backsides you are stuffed. Once BT were contacted the service was first class and the problem solved within half an hour of the engineer calling at my house and then visiting the exchange. I have got three months free service as a result of the problem but that doesn't help when you are without it .

Have read through these sites it worth reading up , and also depends wher you are in the country

DSL ZONE or this one HERE

IMHO Do your homework more often or not it can depends wherr you are in the country . DO you want a yearly contract, monthly contract. fixed speed, etc etc .

In the end you pay your money and takes your chance . Don't forget that a lot of the maller prividers are in fact owned and run by the bigger ones . In fact there are only a few  major ISP's in this country . If i read the press report correctly .

There are some very good smaller ones .
Good Luck

Ours is with Karoo owned and run by Kingston Communications, a bit pricey but never had a problem, exclusive to the Hull area though....

I would recomend BT, they may be a little more expensive.
But when you have a problem you deal directly with the supplier unlike some of the other companies who you have to contact first, then they contact BT etc.... Outside of BT I have found Sky to be ok,  they atleast provide you with decent enough wireless router.

Well Even with BT you can have problems I know of two cases wher the fault was with the BT line and it tok over 12 months to get it fixed . They had BT internet. When they changed over to a new ISP the new ISP got BT to fix the fault..So even wit the LINE provider you can have problems .

Like I said originally its a personal thing. Do your research and make your own choice.

Agree

Also there are advantages of using other companies.

If you do have a problem, its going to be easier to speak with someone at a smallier company than BT. They tend to have a direct number to the BT broadband department rather than the home user spending 10mins holding on the phone

tbh you can't go wrong with SKY these days, I have many a friend with them and they are quite happy.

I myself am with plus net www.plus.net, I'm what most would regard as a heavy user so need a business account and they are the most affordable business isp around Smiley
