Well, my brother's 530d 'service' light came on a month ago. He phones the local dealer and got this quote. After he picked himself and the phone off the floor he asked what he gets for his money and the bloke said (no joke) "We do a proper job, sir - we dont take it out of dipstick tube - we undo the sump nut"  ROFL ROFL ROFL

When he told me and I stopped laughing I gave him the number of the 2 guys in a garage behind the shops just up the road from me (proper mechanics).

How much, that'll be £18 if you supply oil & filter (£40) - done today.

Makes you wonder what the rest of the £200+ BMW wanted was for?

Whilst on the subject, thought I'd get this one in  Grin

Nelson Mandella is woken early one morning by a knock at the door. He answers it & there is a guy standing there with a clipboard.
"Mr Mandella, I've got a delivery of 25 engines, could you sign here please ?"
"25 engines !" Nelson exclaims, "I didn't order any engines"
"Okay says the delivery driver, but I'm in a hurry, can you just sign it & we'll sort it out later"

He signs it & the delivery driver leaves.

2 hours later there is a knock at the door & it's the same delivery driver.

"I've got 50 gearboxes for you, could you sign here please"
"50 gearboxes !....I never ordered 50 gearboxes ?" exclaims Nelson Mandella again.
" yeah, okay, but I'm in a hurry, can you please sign it & we'll sort it out later" says the driver.

So he signs it & the delivery driver leaves.

2 hours later there is another knock at the door.

"Mr Mandella, I've got a delivery of 100 steering racks, could you sign for them please ?"
"Hang on a minute" says Nelson Mandella..." I didn't order 100 steering racks, let me see that delivery note "
The driver says "I'm in a bit of a hurry, can you just please sign it & we'll sort it out later"
...."Give me that delivery note now !!" an annoyed Nelson Mandella shouts, & snatches it from the drivers hand.
He reads the address & then gives it back to the driver...

...."You twit, this says deliver to NISSAN MAIN DEALER !!!!!"  Grin

Just love these  entrepuneurs   ( tricky spelling ,  doesn't look right  does it ? ) .

Our local guy advertises a  full,    that's  FULL,   car service for £120.

It looks a bargain till you  look more closely:

Oil and Filter replacement  ( good, like it  )

Brake pad check  ( erm,   not replaced then ? )

 Brake Fluid Check

 Tyre pressure Check

 Window Washer Check

 Air Filter Check

 Steering Rack Check

 Power Steering Fluid Check

The upshot is,    a power of checkin'  goin'   on,  but  only the oil and filter is a
  definite  replacement.

They must think  our  heads  zip up at the back  Roll Eyes

   BEWARE !

The trouble with services on modern cars is that there isn't much you can really service. Most parts aren't servicable anymore, just replacable.

It's not like on older vehicles where you had to grease up the ball joints, lubricate the distributor, tune the carb, time the engine, adjust the tappets etc........that's a proper service  Wink

How these garages get away with calling an oil change & check-over a full service, then give you a £120+ bill  Shocked..... I will never know  Huh

jonnycab.
We dont realise just how the motorist is hoodwinked and frightened into going to the franchise for 'servicing',by nonsense like "only we are able to do it properly"or
"you will lose your guarantee if you let any one else touch it".The enlightened amongst us are well aware of the vast profits made by these conglomerates.A can of engine oil and filter cost me £11.50 and as we know, takes 20 minutes to change. While it trickles out we cast our eye around underneath,or check brakes and wheel bearings, anything identified is done later BY US,not the multi hundred pound ripoffsky experts. No it would be a terrible thing to be a 'motorist',but I suppose it,s akin to being born without legs, they know nothing else.
