Didn't do the welding practice today, instead we decided to go to Norsey Woods in Billericay (my old childhood haunt) for a ramble.....ahh, it brought back many fond memories Anyway, whilst walking along those old well remembered woodland pathways, our little 4 year old boy (Samuel) picked up a chestnut casing & immediately threw it down because it was 'all prickly'. 'Hmm' I got to thinking We arrived home with pockets full of chestnuts & immediately lit the BBQ Once warmed up, the chestnuts went on for ten minutes & when done & skin peeled off, were (as I remember them as a kid) the most exquisitely tasting morsels ever... If roasted chestnuts aren't the 'Food of the Gods', then I don't know what is

We just had Hull Fair here Jon so the smell of roasting chestnuts is still fresh in my nostrils.... Bet they were delicious with being fresh of the trees as well. Our only supply now seems to be TESCO's, don't seem the same somehow.... Eeeee Lad, what memories eh'..... Pete

I can almost hear Nat King Cole singing... Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping on your nose, Yuletide carols being sung by a choir, And folks dressed up like Eskimos. Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe, Help to make the season bright. Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow, Will find it hard to sleep tonight. They know that Santa's on his way; He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh. And every mother's child is going to spy, To see if reindeer really know how to fly. And so I'm offering this simple phrase, To kids from one to ninety-two, Although its been said many times, many ways, A very Merry Christmas to you

Don't worry, I haven't been in hospital having my stomach pumped after eating a pile of bar-be-qued conkers I do know the difference between the two....chestnuts are sweet tasting & conkers just taste foul, a bit like acorns

Not recently, but when I was a kid I had a little nibble of a conker & an acorn & seem to remember that they tasted incredibly bitter.........but that's the kind of thing you do when you're a kid isn't it
