Hi all. Just out of interest- does anybody know the answer to this one? In the whole history of the world, has there ever been a time when DFS did NOT have a sale on? Wink

Seems to be the same with Allied Carpets  Cheesy

I just wonder what the cost price of their sofas is - I mean £500 or less for a sofa with 5 yrs interest free credit ? Mark up must be pretty big to finance that sort of deal. I'll bet a lot of customers take that one up.

Read the small print on the sale offer will tell you where the items were on sale at the higher price. It will be some obscure store and for  one day or possibly two , the items MUST have been offered at a higher price somewhere to comply with the trading standards law ... as I said read the small print

Another thing - DO measure the sofa in the showroom - and then when you get home again you can work out how much room it will take up in your lounge...they are HUGE  Shocked
Also check it will fit through your front door...

I paid £1300 for a 3 and a 2 seater leather sofas about 3 years ago from them, they had to come out to fix the bigun cos it had collapsed inside, he took the bottom off and I nearley died when I saw what it is made of.... Angry CHIPBOARD which looked like it was the offcuts from a kitchen manufacturers.... Angry  Needless to say they are no good now cos they are stuffed with Kapock which is a hollow fibre and collapses after a while so it's like sitting on boards. Angry Angry

I have just ordered a traditional 3 piece from HARVEY'S
a 3 seater and 2 armchairs with a footstool... £1200 delivered in 10 weeks. Hardwood frame and pocetspring seating.
It looks good and feels superb, (like sitting in a SCorpio, it is 10" shorter than the DFS one and we look forward to its arrival.... Cheesy

DFS..... Sale? no wonder they can have a continuous sale, all thier prices are extortionate to start with, I'd NEVER deal with them again....

We bought a 3 seater & 2 seater cream leather sofas about 3 years ago from Argos for £499.00 & we've not had any problems with them drooping or ripping at all, in fact, for the price they are surprisingly comfy & very durable.

Personally, I don't think (especially in these times) I'd want to deal with one of these large furniture stores as they have a habit of taking your money one day & then suddenly, without warning, going into liquidation the next & the chances of you seeing your hard earned wonga ever again is usually pretty slim  Huh

P.S....sorry to be a pessimist  Wink

Before we got those 2 sofas from them we had already had 2 of the wood framed sets which is what we originally wanted, they both ended up going back because of faulty workmanship... We had paid cash for them so we felt obliged top accept the exchange first of all, the second time we picked the ones I am talking about, we thought a different style would get rid of the problem and paid extra to do the swap, not even considering the size issue.... The whole fiasco with DFS has been a waste of time, effort and money.... Never again.  Sad

Or....Dodgy F***ing Sofas  Grin

Seriously though, most people think that DFS stands for 'Discount Furniture Stores', but it doesn't.

As far as I'm aware, it actually stands for 'Direct Finance Services'. The reason being, is because they don't make the furniture & they don't make a profit on the furniture. They make a profit on the finance deals that they offer on the furniture  Smiley

Anyone ever gone into DFS & offered to buy something with cash & then been escorted off the premises by a couple of burly security guards ?  Wink
