If Mr Darling gets away with the scrappage scheme, and he may not, future generations will be deprived of classic cars, but owing to people like us digging their heels in,the supply could be assured. GOZZ.

I actually think it is good news for Scorpio owners. As we are all hopefully going to hang onto ours. Many older cars will be scrapped, leaving fewer cars over ten years of age still on the road. This will inevitable increase the price of our ever decreasing Scorpios. There are few "older" cars still on the roads as it is. Lets say the less enthusiastic owners will "cash" in. This Leaves the lesser spotted Scorpio in prime position to command a worthy value at last.

even giving me 2K I couldn't afford to buy a new car, the ones they would be having scrapped are the ones the normal man in the street can afford to keep comfortably

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7995928.stm So to anyone thinking of buying a new car then an old car (9 years plus or whatever they set it) would have some value to it?? So if I were off to buy my brand spanking new motor I would have a quick look on ebay for an old banger for a couple of hundred quid and its worth £2000 to me to trade it in?? Still, its bound to bump up the old car prices Its a crazy crazy world

hi there i need to dis-agree a bit with other members opinion on this. i'll need to see all the in's and out's of the scheme, but if i could afford the balance after the voucher, i might be tempted. £2000 for an old scorpio is a lot of money.

Not that I like to cause controversy.... BUT! If I get my £2000 voucher from Mr Darling would I get cashback on the new Nano? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7957671.stm

Dont know all the ins and outs yet ,but i bet the idea of buying an old banger to qualify for 2k , will be scotched by them saying you must have owned the old banger for a fair period of time.

I'm sure when people come to trade in the new car they bought with the £2k 'scrappage allowance' dealers will factor that in to the trade-in valuation. You don't get summat for nothing. Maybe I'm just cynical. Keeping my Scorpio thanks very much...as well as my '84 Sierra, and the '86 Sierra which I bought today

The type of person who owns a 9 yr old car through necessity is probably not going to be able to justify the cost of a brand new motor, even with £2k off the balance. Unfortunately the only people that MIGHT be able to justify the cost of a brand new car, are those who own 9 year old cars NOT through necessity, I.E. they are enthusiastic about their old car, or whatever. It's just another way of making life complicated. If there is no minimum period of ownership of an old banger (to qualify for the scheme) then how much are old bangers going to cost off ebay? You've guessed it... £1750! This is complete arse.

| The £2000 wont be swallowed by the dealer though, its a goverment backed scheme, as I understand it the dealers profit wouldnt be affected, they'll just claim the cash back
