Toolbox foam

I work for a company that provide tool control foams to the aerospace industry.

Basically we take a two tone piece of foam, usually black on the top layer and luminous yellow below and cut out tool profiles using a CNC router so that if a tool is missing after working on an engine there is a large yellow space in the tool box drawer telling the mechanic there is a spanner somewhere in his jet engine Smiley

The father of one of our customers is really into his model trucks and takes them all round the country showing them, up to now he has done it in a wooden box full of cotton wool..

So.... we decided we'd try cutting the truck profiles in the foam as a little experiment and we think it looks really professional, the guy is delighted with it Smiley

Just got me wondering if anyone else has any other ideas or uses for it??

I'm currently making myself a little case to hold various small Scorpio parts....sad but true...  Grin

Anyone think of any other uses??

Hello. I used to work on a CNC router and any home work somebody  wanted i used to do the programs for it. Anyway i did some signs once , asking certain visitors not to knock on the door. What you could do is make some signs saying something like " Scorpio parking only " or something, you know ( seen the signs on ebay ) , sell them and put a bit in the scorpio site kitty. Sure you would get some buyers

hi there

nearly.

don't know how many members know this, but there was a foam tool kit pad thing for the Scorpio (think it was a Granada thing, though) estate. not sure if you could get for the saloon. Undecided

was thinking some members might want this made for their car.

the mondeo is a bit strange because it has a flat floor in the boot, excluding the spare wheel well. the Scorpio estate has 'compartments'. does the saloon? Undecided

anyway, lets see what Stuart says/thinks.

Yep I know the idea Andrew, in fact it could be done to hold any combination of tools required, will have a wee play with that and see how it works out..

Price mainly depends on the amount of cutting work required, the more intricate the cut out means a smaller cutter being required which means more time cutting, once i get a rough idea of whats required i can work out a price

As for size we work with 2 x 1 metre sheets and can make them any depth from 5mm upwards.. our usual is 30mm or 50mm but anything really...

so Scorpio boot size wont be a problem, indeed i have cut out foam shapes for car boots before, very professional it looks too Wink

Wide range of colours available too, most common is black on yellow,  solid black is another favourite
but we have a wide range of colour combinations, red, blue, green, orange, purple, white, grey even PINK Wink

Anyone you know on the Granada forum got a pic of this foam ?

Sorry guy's I haven't got a pic of any foam, I know where to buy some at trade price, It is sticky backed, used in air conditioning installations for soundproofing, 8x4 sheets, approx 50mm thick, dence and one colour (Grey)
I'll find out the price tomorrow and post the price up on here
