The old home made hydrogen fuel cell idea is making a comeback then  Roll Eyes, although the design seems to have improved slightly.
The last homemade one I heard about involved some battery cells, a few wires, a couple of pipes & a jam jar ....can't remember if it was Youtube or Blue peter I saw it on  Grin

Don't try this at home kids, you may well blow up the neighbourhood  Wink

Talking of saving fuel, I've recently been reading that adding a few drops of acetone to the fuel can improve mpg by up to 30%  Undecided.....don't think the wife will be too impressed when she catches me pouring all her nail varnish remover in the tank  Wink...... Grin

Wow - I'm going to try that - it should go well with my Ecotek valve, electric super charger and the boost chip.

Ye cann'ae change the laws o' physics !! ye cann'ae !!!!

I like the idea but it falls down on one major point.....

the Ionisation energy (that needed to break the hydrogen and oxygen bonds apart) is 459kJ/mole - in this case a mole equating to just 16g of water

so to put this into context.....

1 Watt = 1 Joule dissapated per second

Your average kettle is rated at 3kW - 3000 J per second.  We're talking 459,000 Joules. Per second.

I make that..... 114,750 kettles Smiley - think an 097 can cope ?  Grin ( hmmm.... 3000w divided by 12 volts....250A per kettle.... Just shy of 2.9 million amperes.... what was that reserve capacity again ?.....)

Add the fact due to a wonderful little thing called entropy, we get less energy from burning the results that it took to break them apart in the first place, the whole idea 'tis a bit thin Smiley

Lets face it - if it was as easy to seperate water into its components as they make out, then wouldn't we literally be surrounded by OCEANS of High explosives ??  Roll Eyes
