Would be very interested to know that Stuart, cos if I go the Scorpio floorpan route, it maybe easier for me to cut the rails and inner wings out with it and weld the whole lot into the Focus shell.

I'm not sure yet how the Focus inner wings and chassis rails are gonna look with regards to the 4x4 xmember and strut top mounts  Wink

It may be that I'll remove the complete Focus floor from back panel thru floor / tunnel, bulkheads and inner wings / chassis rails and then cut a sierra / scorpio pan out the same.  Then cut the sierra / scorpio pan behind the handbrake and remove enough to get the lengths / wheelbase correct.  Trim each side to get widths correct across sills bulkheads and arches.

Weld it all in and Roberts the brother of yr mother  Wink

Instant 4x4 Focus shell Grin Grin Grin

Stuart... Any news on the chassis rails yet?

Matt... How did you stop the transmission from flagging an error code and defaulting once your roadspeed rises and you start shifting the manual box...

I say this because the transmission control looks at input rpm v output rpm and if it doesnt change gear within its parameters it will flag a slip or ratio error. Also a converter lockup slip Huh
AFAIK the ECU is also monitoring the Overdrive gearset speed via the internal speed sensor in the front of the auto tranny, (not the VSS).  It's all very well fooling the ECU into thinking the solenoids and sensors are connected but I  doubt it will stop the above happening. once the vehicle is underway Huh

Have you scanned it for transmission codes once you've driven it (not just OBD scan) ?

That is why I have in the past used BOA EEC IV on Manual / 4x4 BOB's. as the BOA tranny is hydraulic and vac modulated it avoids all this, and its parameters and lambda's will correct the fuelling, so that's not an issue.

I may try using a 2.0 16V Scorpio Manual EEC V ECU on the 24V Focus as they can be re - flashed, if necc.  But again I doubt the fuelling will be that far off, only problem may be injector sequencing, but I'm not sure if the BOB is fully sequential or just one crank revolution i.e bank to bank Huh

...or...

It also may be worth getting the 24V BOB ECU re flashed to remove the gearbox program, I have a mate who maps for Ford's, General Motors etc etc and has the software to do this.

If anyone has a spare BOB ECU (Stuart ?) we could try this out.

Jeez, now I got a headache  ROFL

HTH

Hi Dave

The way i did it was i used relays for the shift sols and resistors for the sensors, the EPC is the one i had trouble with so i stripped the box and just stuck the solenoid back in for now (cooked resistors and as its always pulsing so made relays noisy and in time would burn out), ive not used that internal transmission speed sensor, on my car at least it doesn't appear to need it/monitor it?

Ive got it wired so that its permanently in neutral resistance wise, also not all functions of the auto box are tested when its in park or neutral. You can remove the start inhibit very easily on the auto box

i road tested the car for about 10-15 miles and it never faultered or went in to limp mode, revs all the way up to the red line, it seems ok with the traction control to

one thing i have noticed is the E and S buttons make a difference to the shift sols, in E solenoid 1 and 2 constantly pulse in S they dont

the OD just leave open circuit (i pulled the wires from the multi plug)

i will be modifying my set-up a bit fooling wise as i dont need some of the circuit board i made up and want to find a better way of fooling the EPC, and having it so that it will always be in S mode

not had it tested on a computer for codes but driving it would appear to be ok

when the 4.0 is built and ready to be fitted i hope to run it all off a stand alone ecu so none of this will be an issue, that will be the turn of mapping that engine lol

I know on the 2.0 and 2.3 just disconnecting the 3-4 shift wire will stop the engine starting  so i am also interested to hear about this fool box    Smiley

There is a guy in Finland on FSOC  who fitted a 2.3 16v to a Sierra  he bought a new crate engine and autobox ecu and loom etc  he never used the autobox and fitted his manual box  so i asked him how he fooled the ecu  he said

[quote="Sierra Finland"]"Hi, It was quite easy, just had to cheat the ecu to think that there is an autobox, and it is on position "N". You can use the position sensor from the 2,3 autobox"

Instead of scorpio autobox´s position sensor, you can use 750 ohm (dont know the word Shockedops: )

750 ohms equals the position "N"

he took a lot of pics

Ah, yes cheers Matt,  I've just realised as you rightly say the box control won't monitor shifts if it thinks its in neutral.

Doh.... didn't think of that  Embarassed

Still in my defence it was a very late lock in down our local Saturday night / Sunday morning and my brain wasn't exactly in gear yesterday Grin

Think the best plan for me, for the Focus Rally Car is to give my mate the 24V BOB ECU to reflash though, it will just remove the Auto Box programming completely  Wink

Stuart,

If you find a 2.0 4x4 for sale cheapish, Id be happy to stump up some dosh and let you drop the car here, I can pull out the diffs for you as I dont need them but need all the rest.  I dare say you probably got a spare 2.9 4x4 rear diff and I already have the V6 sump and front diff.

Let me know what ya think

Hi Matt, and thanks for the offer.

Yeah have considered Scorpio Floorpan, and the answer is maybe, but coz I need all the 4x4 running gear at the mo I'm gonna keep looking for an XR4X4 Sierra.

The Scorpio floorpan would go but is more work involved, the Sierra 4X4 ones will go in the Focus with little modification, saving time on tunnel mods, rear suspension hook up etc.  Will also be easier to keep it all geometrically correct with less mods LOL.

I'm going to get my 24V Estate MOT'd in the near future so I can put the private plate on me Explorer, then I'm gonna have the Engine etc out of it for the Focus, so if I'm really stuck guess I can use the floorpan out of the Estate.

Picked this one up last night, it was only described as an 4x4 estate non runner (suspected engine seized) .... £200

2.9 Ghia 4x4 estate in mint condition, inside and out, no rust at all, undersealed with some black waxy looking stuff. all Ghia 4x4 refinements, headlight protectors, spare alloys, new tyres, taxed till August, Mot October

Had a play around with it last night, the starter was jammed! now running perfectly although the clutch has gone,  looks like it will be back on the road soon!

Just what I needed, another 20 mpg motor! might come in handy if we get another winter like last year though  Grin

Amazing how some people throw their hands in the air Stuart  Roll Eyes it's all about the ravages of time and comparing replacement with fuel costs I reckon, however you look at it,WASTE is what it boils down to in this 'economic' climate !!
