Do you have a high mileage car?

I always read Honest John’s piece on cars in the Telegraph and recently he commented on high mileage cars. My 24V Ultima has 87,000 miles. Now we are all likely to have old cars and some with what we consider to be high mileage so if you have a “High mileage car” and you do not know the answer have a guess at what Irv’ Gordon’s red P1800 Volvo has covered. Mr. Gordon bought the car new in 1966 from Volvoville in the U.S.A. One internet site has the incorrect mileage which is too low but I understand that Mr. Gordon does hold the official Guiness record.

According to Google it's 2.6 million miles. My Scorpio only has 143k on the clock so quite some way to go.

The first car my parents at the time of getting a licence allowed me to use was a red Mazda 818 -76. It had 600000km (372k miles) when sold (in 2000) and was taxed & used atleast until 2006 by the next owner.

During the late 90's i worked in a Volvo dealership and Irv Gordens car was featured in an internal news paper, it was reported that he did all his own servicing and changed his oil every 3 months. I cant help wondering where he drives to clock up so many miles. My 2.0lt Ultima has clocked up 140k miles and if i can keep the bodywork together long enough i might go for the record.

Mine has just turned 151000. The most i had on a car was from new, a 530 BMW and in seven years i had put on 245000 and sweet as a nut even when I sold it. It is still going now with it's new owner and that was twelve years ago. Lee

How many times around the 'clock' Baz? My Zodiac has 'only' 44k on the clock, but I bet it's not just the first time over the top! I always liked the Corsair, my brother had a 2000E many moons ago, it was automatic and in 'silver-fox'. I remember sitting outside the house helping him put on a wider tyre with the 'massive' 175x13 Michelin tyres! Onto 'Rostyle' wheels! Would that be right? The Zodi' is still in great condition, I have changed the gearbox from the standard disgusting French C4 to a BW65, unfortunately this meant I had to change it to floor change. It's done 376k dry miles, (it's an original Malta car) with minor changes to engine, like cylinder-head, and repairs to cooling system. It'll still do 85mph fairly easily, after that it's really pushing it, but the interior is still perfect. The paint-work is really poor, it's a roman bronze I think! The top layer has become very flakey, like a Brit on holiday after two weeks that has managed to outlast the sun!!! No point in doing any work paint-wise, it'll last about a year. Old Fords really last over in Malta, your choice!

No PJ, it really has only done less than 2000 miles from new. I have the documents to prve. One owner from new, bought as a second car and very rarely used, bumped on the front wing in the early 1970's and then fixed, garaged and not driven again until May this year! It only has an original green log book and many old MOT's and things as well as its service book with only the free 500 miles service having been stamped. It is a 2000E auto in Blue Mink (I have another one which I am rebuilding which has done 37,000 miles) but the paint has flaked and it is in need of a good resto job. The interior, boot and underneath are mint. I will put some pics up as I do it up Baz

Hi guys, newbie here....I bought and have a scorpio ultima (elegance?) P reg 16v saloon since 14th December and it is my first ever car I've owned. I wasn't going to buy an automatic but the engine, interior and bodywork sold it for me. Mine now has 189k on the clock. I love the feel of it already though I do have a list of things that need sorting out which I'll post in other places than here. - Back to work for me
