In theory, the 147 hp @ 5600 rpm / 149 ft-lb @ 4500 rpm 2.3 litre engine fitted to the Scorpio should make 122 hp and 123 ft-lb at the rear wheel at the same rpm.

The Triumph Rocket III, also a 2.3 litre, made 120 hp @ 5300 rpm and a stonking 140 ft-lb @ 3200 rpm at the rear wheel in a recent test. Not only that, it made 111 ft-lb at a mere 1,000 rpm!

Not often you see a motorcycle engine better suited to use in a car that your typical car engine Cheesy

That's the kind of thing most non-bikers are completely unaware of, viz, for the last 3 decades or so (at least) a big motorbike typically has the power to weight ratio of a formula 1 racing car

My Moto Guzzi is 80 bhp and 78 lb/ft torgue, as made in 1976! And that's considered "slow" these days

98hp (forget the torque) - I wouldn't mind a bit more, though. And the grunt from the 2300 triple Cheesy

Yep, that's a 1980 Laverda Jota, I've had it since new.   Complete with right-foot gear-change and blasted linked Brembo brakes.   I like that Triumph, I've got a Yammy MT01 as a streetbike, it's torquey and a lot of fun with a stage 2 tune.   Main Bike is a Yammy Bulldog 1100, it's a shaft-drive sports-tourer 'V' Twin and handles just like an old Ducati even though it has awful ground clearance, I've de-restricted it and put an 'Allens' kit on it with a nice pair of dou-tech exhausts, gives it about 85 bhp on the tarmac.

There is a 2008 left-over MT-01 for sale in town - £22,000. Welcome to Norway Sad

I like the MT-01, both the looks and the grunt - although it is useless for two-up riding. The Bulldog is also interesting, especially as an everyday workhorse what with its shaft final drive. Looks nice, too, and a practical riding position. I'm surprised you've managed to get that much performance from the old Virago donk, though!

The Laverda is a darned nice machine, although it doesn't sound nearly as good as the later editions featuring the 120-degree cranks. A Swedish magazine compared the Jota (with the original half fairing) to the Lemmon Mk II and Ducati 900SS back in 1981. For their test run, they ride from Stockholm to Paris for a famous hamburger meal, then returned directly afterwards. A pretty hefty ride for a meal Cheesy

The MT is ok for two's up, but just for short blasts.   'Doggie is great, easily tuned, much improved over the Virago.   A few pics below show Doggie ready for it's trip to Malta complete with it's legal Malta plate.   The very day I picked up the MT01 and took it to findhorn for some pics, and the MT01 after having installed the stage two kit with the Akrapovic pipes.   Both the Yams have removable baffles, and both tuned by me on the College Rolling Road.   It's not the top-speed that matters, it's the handling and the Torque, quite a personal thing.   I've had a few fast Bikes, the best was an early Blackbird, but I spent the whole time rolling-off the throttle because it was SOOOO smooth, "Whoops, I'm doing 120mph again".   Best fun Bike was a 1200 Bandit.
