just got back from a day trip to france&belgium round trip of 263.7 miles and used just 32 quids worth of petrol!! and the return trip was with 30 cases of blossom hill on board (and the wife)
thought that was pretty good , i wasnt toodling about at 50mph either . apart from near wipe out thanks to a stupid stupid mini scab driver it was a straight forward trip , it made me realise what a good car the scorpio is , and why did i get rid of my last one .........oh well we live and learnSmiley

No 2 litre does 44 mpg that I know of

A quick work out, assuming it's £1.20 / litre, 26.66 litres, = about 6 gallons, be generous and assume 33 mpg (and which would be good), = 193 miles.

I know my speedo does overread for both speed and miles clocked. Could be +10%

I agree though the 2.0 L is "not working properly" until it's doing 75 mph in overdrive Grin

£114.9 a litre , wakes arms roundabout , essex , shell garage .i reset the trip computor thing to nought be fore i set off from the garage , so i cant explain why i got the return i did , but honestly i did !!! only sat in traffic once the whole day , that was for 6 miles on m25 at the dartford crossing , rest of the time was spent moving , got to say apart from driving on the wrong side the roads in france were superb , smooth and very staight , wish some of our roads were half as good

Well if it is really true Rich, then I think you may have bought one of the limited economical Scorps.....I remember reading something on this site a few years ago about there being a few Scorps that were set up for real good fuel economy (older members may remember), but I didn't believe it.......maybe it was true after all  Undecided

I used to have a 2.0 16V manual Scorp & to be honest, it wasn't really alot more economical than my current 2.3 Auto....maybe a couple of mpg better ?...but certainly nowhere near as frugal on fuel as yours seems to be  Smiley

What does the trip computer say regarding average mpg ?

I fitted a diesel diff to a 2.3 that improved the motoway cruising mpg significantly, it might have a different diff on it...

I had a 2.0 auto a couple of years ago it was my first 4 cylinder Scorpio and it was fantastic on fuel . I had just changed from a 91 2.0 Sierra auto and didnt notice a difference in ££ per week over the same distance every week . at its best i was getting 40mpg and i could have got a bit more with without trying too hard .  most of my driving is on B roads very very little traffic .
My second 2.0 was terrible it wasnt as livly either and i doubt that one ever managed 25mpg  . The first one had a new top loom and Maf the second one was all original even though it drove ok

If the speedo pinion is original, although the needle shows too much, the internal measurement is (on my 24V at least) +-1km/h exact. The exact VSS reported speed can be checked with the trip reset button trick, and it matches satnav, although the needle shows more.

OK looks like I may be wrong about the speedo etc., just come back from a long camping weekend in South Oxfordshire, Google route planner said 135m, on arriving at the actual destination address, exactly 135!

FWIW fuel worked out at around 32mpg, that's motorways, A & B roads, and no hold-ups, and a bit of trolleying about to pubs etc. That's 1mpg up from previous long distance tests, wow Grin . Can't see it getting much better than that.

2.9 cossie. Just had a week in wales did in total 650 miles going up and down the cardigan bay. Must say that the roads in wales are much smoother than the roads around here. Put in £140, my computer was saying 26 MPG by the time i got back home. Price £1.17 Per Litre. Not very good at working things out. Is that good , fair or bad

That's pretty good for a cossie.  I average 22mpg on my trip to work which is one third 30mph, one third 50mph and one third motorway (70mph honest gov give or take 15% Smiley - on this trip, I find the difference between 60mph, 70mph and 80mph makes only a couple of mpg difference).

Did a trip to Cardiff from Blackpool a couple of weeks ago and wafted along at 70mph nearly the whole way on cruise control, returned 30.5mpg Smiley

That's what motorways are originally meant for, best fuel economy and minimum stress and wear on the mechanicals by maintaining a constant speed.

In reality, rarely works out like that Grin

You had a good day!
