Having purchased a Scorpio for use as a doner which was already sorned do I need to sorn it again in my name or does the original sorn get transferred to my name and address along with with the V5.

I usually do it straight away, last time I left one till I got the V5 (I didnt get any V5 from seller) they said there had been a gap in the tax/SORN (about 6 weeks) but I never heard anymore about it

My first td hadnt been taxed or sorn for almost 3 years, they refused to send the logbook at first but i told them the truth, which was i bought it for spares off a bloke with a field full of damaged cars, they must of checked it out as the v5 arrived a week later

You might have to do it on snail mail,the online system doesn't always work on a recent transfer according to circumstances appertaining to who has done what or not ! I tried three times to do one of mine on line and ended up with a fine threat,I had to ring them to sort it out.
The latest gag of course is even if your car is taxed but uninsured,you have to turn the disc in and SORN it,or they may send transport to the crusher for it  what are we coming to eh ? you have to admire the clever few who manage to get by without a vehicle,you would think we were all criminals the way big brother cracks his whip,the only people he can't catch ARE criminals
