Well, I suppose I wasn't expecting anything life changing....& that was confirmed in yesterday's government budget.
But hang on, they've scrapped Labours old fuel escalator (introduced by the Conservatives in 1993) for as long as they are in power....No more fuel tax rises for the foreseeable future 
But the follow-on announcement, that they will be reducing fuel duty by one penny a litre has me slighty miffed 
Is this really going to make any difference at all ?...Surely this is a lame & patronising attempt by another bunch of public school bullies to try to subdue & pacify the suffering & anger felt by the working class majority of this nation.
One penny a litre !!..wow, cosmic !!...that means it will as cheap as it was at the beginning of the week & will probably be a penny a litre dearer by the weekend
How thick do the government think the tax payer is ?...We all know that nearly 80% of the fuel price is tax, so a penny a litre cut will make no difference to the exchequer profits whatsoever. They know the petrol retailers will just put prices up again & they won't have lost a penny 
Libya is another big worry on the oil markets...unrest in any place where there is extensive investment in oil exploration going on is bound to affect things.....& Libya, prospectively, is thought to possibly have the biggest un-tapped oil supply in the world.
So I suppose that means even higher prices at the pumps 
Why is it though, that in the USA, average petrol prices are a third of what they are here ?

Regarding the Yank prices. Yank taxes are more 'stealthier' than ours, so the government gets their taxes in other ways that they don't need to hike the tax on fuel. The yanks also buy in much larger quantities from the oil rich countries, so get a better price. The bulk of our oil comes from Oklahoma, shipped across to the Gulf then we purchase from OPEC that's why our pricing is on the West Texas Intermediate scale, this suits our government because they are getting the export tax on the Brent Spot price which at the moment about ten dollars a barrel higher. So, not only are we being taxed to hell on the lower price of crude, but they are also coining it on exports on the higher price. We buy crude oil the cheapest in europe, about 10p a litre cheaper than France or Germany, but our taxes on oil is the dearest in europe even though the government will say, "our refined oil price is in line with europe" but people forget that the starting price is very much lower! If we were using our own oil, which we could be almost self-sufficient in, we would have to pay the equivalent of about £1.80 a litre before the government would break even. Two sure things in UK, Death and Taxes!

JC, the way I understand it is 1p cut in duty from yesterday and cancellation of the planned rise in April which means petrol will cost 6p per litre less than it would have done.
People complain about the cuts in public spending but given the size of the deficit, whichever party had formed Government after the last election, would have had to make cuts and put VAT and other taxes up. The cuts are large but without them I am sure we would be looking at higher interest rates on Government borrowing by now and maybe a trip with the begging bowl to the IMF. Just take a look at Greece, Eire and now Portugal with probably Spain to follow shortly. Given the scale of the problems with the public finances I don't think this lot are doing too bad a job - it's early days and these things don't get fixed overnight - let's give them a fair crack.
One thing I think they are doing which is really good is the pledge to move personal allowance to £10k by the end of this Parliament. I have always thought it wrong that someone earning low or minimum wage should pay tax.

Please correct me if I am wrong but I seem to remember when fuel duty went UP by one penny it was that plus the correspnding VAT, so sureley if going down by one penny there should also be a small reduction to accomodate the VAT.
Having said that my local BP station yesterday morning was 136.9 for unleaded and, guess what, this morning 136.9

Well I'm just happy to be contributing towards looking after all the immigrants, drug addicts, criminals, terrorists and those who aim to go through life never working and EXPECTING to be looked after! 
The national debt seems to have been overlooked...
"National debt forecast to be 60% of national income this year, rising to 71% in 2012"
i dont know much about it but that doesnt seem very good to me, its going up 11% this year and one day will have to be paid back

If YOU do something wrong YOU will pay the price for it, no longer will it be everyone elses fault or some government department which has failed you..
Being drunk or under the influence or drugs will no longer be a defense, you took them, you pay the consequences.
If you are unemployed you will be housed, kept warm, clothed and fed and in return do FULL TIME community work until you find employment. (pothole repairs for starters)
You WILL NOT be able to afford HOLIDAYS, CARS, PLASMA TV's, SKY, MOBILE PHONES, DRUGS, CIGARETTES and DESIGNER CLOTHES.
Immigrants will be made welcome but will now find life easier somewhere else and not come to the UK.
Euthanasia will be allowed, in the correct circumstances where ALL parties agree.
Jails etc where certain inmates constantly put staff at risk will have the option to apply for this. Some people just dont deserve to be here..
We will no longer give aid to countries who can afford to have their own nuclear weapons program or give aid themselves!
We will pull out of the EU and use our own money in our own country!
Contracts for ship building, manufacturing etc shall only be awarded to companies who complete the job within the UK using UK workers.
Compulsory 2 years National service, with exceptions for those entering into and completing certain levels of further education.
We will have an armed forces more than capable of defending our country and continue to provide support and assistance to NATO etc when required.
They will be provided at all times with the very best equipment available, money will not be an issue..
Pay rates for the armed forces will be greatly increased to represent the risks they take.
Members of the armed forces who are severely injured will receive full pay and be housed for life and be offered the opportunity to carry on working within the armed forces if they so wish.
The familys of those killed will receive their full pay and be housed for life.
Foreign nationals such as the Gurkhas who serve in the UK armed forces will receive exactly the same conditions and after completing their service be allowed the option of relocating their families to the UK.
We shall not change our laws or allow them to be sidestepped for different sects, religions, minorities etc.
If you choose to live here you will obey our laws.
Road tax abolished.
Lots more police on the beat
Free education
Taxation will be higher but there will be no more instances of bankers etc getting huge wages and bonuses for poor performances.
The taxation system will make sure extreme wages become extinct.

However, what are your Health policies for the absurdly overweight, and all the other 'malingerers' that block the health system up? Also could we get part of our national insurance back, and opt for private with compulory health insurance??

Add this to your list Highlander and you've got my vote..............UK citizens & passport holders should pay UK income tax wherever they are in the world if ya don't like it give up ya citizenship and don't expect it back......EVER. AND who has more responsibility and deserves more money that the PM............98% income tax on earnings over £250k!!!!!!!!!!! Oh and a few bankers hanging from lamp posts would make me happier
