Absolute EMERGENCY Help needed ASAP!

My Son has (5 mph) had a shunt in the Rover 75 tourer. Wing has gone and front bumper, but as we all know this might be sufficient to write Off the car! He has his eye on my Scorpio as a replacement should this be the case...I mean it would be just "obscene" to let an oaf loose in a 28k Cosworth estate...wouldn't it? I need suitable reasons why he just can't have it. "Oh, but its like having a new car Dad" "we need something large for your Grandchildren" drip...drip...drip Help please Bonnietiler

It appears to me,and doubtless to your son, that your resolve is weakening,we can't carry these offspring all the way through their life."Good old Dad,he's always good for helping us out of the cart",is the way they tend to think, but that ain't necessarily the case. You've probably been too soft with him in the past, therefore the status quo exists. Looking from the outside this is not an emergency situation, merely something that happens to hundreds of people daily, however the main point is do you give him your Scorp,NO not bloody likely,if the car means so much to you keep him out of it. If he really wants a Scorpio help him to find one,but I suspect he wants yours because it's the easy way out,and he would prefer a Rover 75 estate. Stick to your guns Bonnietiler,a fool and his Scorp are soon parted ! GOZZ.

Your last post defines the answer you should give your son, NOT BLOODY LIKELY. Your son is looking for the easy way out and as a mug ,sorry parent, you may feel the need to give in. DON'T. Say you will help him look for a new car but that is as far as it goes. Lee

| Could this have been a deliberate ploy for a sympathy vote, without his physical injury; that you didn't offer but he attempted to squeeze from you ?. Get him to get an insurance quote for the Cossie and make sure that he declares a pending claim, then watch the blood drain from his face. Tell him that you value him as a son much more than you value the Cossie, but you don't want to run the risk of loosing either or both.

| Hi Bonnietiler. Further to my earlier input on this subject(15th April),a stupid question perhaps!!,but is the Rover 75 yours or your sons and is the insurance his as a stand-alone policy?. Now if he wants a Cossie badly enough there is one on E'bay at present, an Estate which would be ideal for a growing family and an ideal tow-car with good kerb-weight & a 2000kgs maximum braked towing weight if he is looking to consider a touring caravan. If he really wants an adrenalin rush on a budget my 155bhp 97 V70 T5 CD Auto could be prised away from me with the right sound of crinkly banknotes. Safe as houses and bullet proof, the police did not just use these for shunting traffic cones around.

Bonnietiler, maybe you could point out the ever increasing price of petrol and mention the low to mid twenties mpg fuel consumption?
