Irish Car Tax

Ok, so you think car tax in the uk is expensive ?
After taxing mine for another 12 months @ £215.00 I came across the rates for Southern Ireland and needless to say I'm awfully glad I don't live there.
-----------------------------------------------

Older cars registered before July 2008 will continue to be have motor tax based on the size of their engine - the bigger the engine cc - the higher the tax.
Listed below are the car tax rates in Ireland as at Jan 2011 for cars registered prior to July 2008.
The amounts can be paid for 6 months or 3 months - but the rates are slightly higher than if you pay for a full 12 months.

Engine Size------------- Annual Car Tax in € Euro
Not over 1,000...........................172
1,001 to 1,100............................259
1,101 to 1,200...........................286
1,201 to 1,300...........................310
1,301 to 1,400............................333
1,401 to 1,500............................357
1,501 to 1,600........................... 445
1,601 to 1,700........................... 471
1,701 to 1,800............................551
1,801 to 1,900.............................582
1,901 to 2,000............................ 614
2,001 to 2,100.............................784
2,101 to 2,200 ............................823
2,201 to 2,300 .............................860
2,301 to 2,400 .............................895
2,401 to 2,500 .............................935
2,501 to 2,600..............................1120
2,601 to 2,700..............................1164
2,701 to 2,800..............................1204
2,801 to 2,900..............................1248
2,901 to 3,000..............................1293
3,001 or more..............................1566

That would put an end to my Ford V6 collection I think!!  Grin

I dont really mind nipping around at 20 mpg but I couldnt justify an extra £100+ a month in road tax, per car!

that's even more stupid than Finland's system, which is based on car's gross weight in kilograms (on old personal cars):

Owners of old heavy cars which are not registered to vans but personal cars (Chevy Astros or camper vans etc) love that Cheesy

A thing like tax of any variety does not bother them JC,in Eire they are known as 'nackers' and are just as much a pestilence as they are here. Our local pub landlord barred them from his boozer, the reply to that was a car transporter reversed through one of the bay windows in opening hours whilst customers were inside, fortunately no one was injured.

He is lucky Gozz I seem to remember that 1 landlord was taken to court for banning them from his pub and he lost the case and had to pay a lot of compensation as it is classed as racism. I do think all these laws are going a bit too far now.

             GOZZ.

Here in Northern Ireland they are referred to as Gypsy's or Gypos. They are also a pain here as they tend to set up camp in some of the beauty-spots and when they move on, either willingly or forced, they leave the place a mess. Recently the authorities have being building houses for them to try and encourage them to not camp in the beauty-spots. I don't believe that many of them have taken up residency as this would mean that they would have to pay rates, electricity, etc.

Incidentally, one is not allowed to call them pikies, gypos, or even gypsy's as this is no longer PC. They have to be referred to as 'Members of the Travelling Community'.

I still refer to them as gypsy's and I will not change to suit any PC.

Thank goodness the Irish Tax system does not apply here. I think I would go back to riding my bike.

I am almost sure that it is the licensees prerogative to refuse to serve who he thinks should not be served,I don't think anyone would stay long without a drink.
