What kind of knee op did you have & how did it get infected ?

I'm due to have a knee op very soon to replace the anterior cruciate ligament (snapped it a couple of years ago) & repair some cartilage damage.

Being self employed it's going to be a strain on the finances, having to take time off work. I'm budgeting for no more than a month off, all going well. But I hadn't really considered the chance of an infection possibly keeping me off work even longer.....you've got me worried now  Undecided

I've got a pre-op assessment next Friday at the hospital, so thats another query to add to the list  Wink

Glad you're on the mend  Smiley

I made a very good job of busting my knee skiing a few years ago and had to have major repairs done as soon as I got back here (came home in me ski suit and went straight to the hospital). One of the ligaments had pulled a lump of bone out of the femur so that was screwed back, lovely 2" stainless steel self tapper, and various other repairs (cruciates snapped and remain so). I too am self employed and had been skiing like a tart, but got caught out on some ice just on the exit off the chairlift. Low speed, so my knees went before my bindings. Bit like the old roast chicken on the Sunday joint.
Anyway, had the op, and was back at work in my full length brace after only a week off. Was able to drive as it was my left leg, car is auto. Heavy doors were the worst obstacle.
So don't despair, it might not be as bad as you fear. Of course you do have to be well ard like me to tolerate the pain, but munch a few co-codamols and you'll be fine. Can you drive with one leg parked? That might be your biggest obstacle, but I wish you all the best...think it's pot luck with regard to infections. Ask the surgeon not to re-use the tools after previous patient without rinsing them first, just to be sure. Fingers crossed for a quick recovery.
