Auto Dimming Mirrors

Hello All

Ive been doing a bit of research on the Scorpio's auto dimming interior mirror and what other models / brands use the mirror.

Seems its a fairly common mirror except you will need to change the ball jointed mount.

Mazda use pretty much the same mirror except the button is different

eg http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140723301395?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trk sid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Jaguar use it to, older XK8 and XJ's use the same, Jaguar S and X use a similar one but its ,

Toyota COROLLA / VERSO early 2000's similar, and they do one the same but does not dim

Honda, but cannot trace it to a model yet

Then if you happy to buy from the states

GM - various models from 2000

Cadillac - late 90's

then you can buy as an upgrade mirror

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DONNELLY-AUTO-DIM-REAR-VIEW-MIRROR-COMPASS-TEM PERATURE-MAPLIGHTS-LITES-/130644142688?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e6aff6a60

Copied from the Jag forum

"Calling Magna Donnelly number (616-786-5115) will result in a recorded announcement saying if you are calling about a replacement interior mirror, you should contact Sybesma's Electronics. They are a contract vendor handling the mirror replacement on behalf of Magna Donnelly.

I emailed Sybesma's Electronics and received a reply from "Stacy" <orders@sybesmas.com>. she sent a PDF form with instructions to return along with pics of the mirror and its mounting point. They also require info regarding the connector, its color, the number of pins and the color of the mirror wires.

The firm remanufacturers these units, and they will ask for your old mirror as a core. The rebuilt mirror uses a gel pack instead of the toxic fluid so at least the potential damage issue is eliminated. The cost used to be $75, but around 2010 it went up to $95.

Once they receive the mirror data, if they can, they pull one from stock, or manufacturer yours to spec, and upon payment ships it out. You use the shipping box to return your old mirror."

and

"The rebuilt unit was in very good condition. It looked brand new, and the tint change from light to dark was fast and very apparent. My old mirror was junk compared to this new one.

Total cost after shipping, etc. was about $95."

also a company called CIPA make a very similar mirror

Dragging up an old post.

Ive found a replacement. The peugeot 807 uses the same Donnelly 011530 mirror unit. However the base is completly different but as its the same base mirror the ball and socket is the same so they can be swapped over.

The metal clip is very hard to get back on but doable.

Its also a lot newer. Just got one off a 2005 for £20

Would this be the gel type or still the old liquid type ? I don't know which year they changed to the gel which apparently does not leak.
