Hi all
I contacted Haynes ford in kent to tell them about my scorpio that was supplied as new by them and only serviced by them. I also told them about the Haynes number plates and Haynes badge on the boot. I asked them if they sell anyHaynes window stickers or tax dics, thinking they might not get back to me. A few days later i had a message asking if i could send a photo to them and they would pass it on to the director. The next day they replied saying how nice the car was and that they have put a few things in the post for me  Grin They didnt say what exactly but they did mention a copy of the original recipt ( they dont have originals for 97) and the work it has had done. it was posted on friday morning so i should have it soon and i cant wait. She said that Haynes have a few classics of there own that they often take to shows, they have a 1912 Model T, the original John Taylor Mk1 Escort he won the Brittish Rallycross Title AND the Chairman's Fathers Scorpio  Grin. If you have a scorpio and it needs a service i would give them a try, they seem to really care for the customers are helpful and seem to like there scorpios Smiley
I will let you know whats in the package as soon as i get it.

Ha, nice Smiley

Reminds me of the time I wrote to Ford's PR department and asked if they would start making the Capri again and did they have any Capri brochures or literature they could send me (this was, like, 6 years after they'd stopped producing the Capri Wink)

I think Mum thought they'd politely blank me but surprise surprise they sent me a nice letter back (no, we can't start making the Capri again but here's some photocopied Capri stuff) and would I like a VIP tour of the Dagenham plant? That was a great day, I got chauffeured around in a brand new Mondeo Ghia and at the end they gave me more posters and memorabilia stuff than I could carry.

One of the best moments of my childhood, I'll always remember that day Smiley.

Yeah, Ford were always pretty good, like with the dealers (not only Dagenham Motors). They always seemed more than happy to send me out with an armful of brochures when I went in there, or send my dear old Aunt Rose out with a ton of brochures and old posters if she asked them for me. When she bought a new Fiesta in 1991, Rates in Grays even gave her a bunch of flowers and some other stuff and had her photo taken, and that was only a bottom end Fiesta.

I think the thing with Ford was how the dealer franchise was run, some of those dealer groups had a real pride and interest. Also, at least in London/Essex, you had the fact that Ford had a lot of connections with the area (aside from the factory, you had the Brentwood HQ, the nearby test track and the AVO centre nested away in the country lanes somewhere near Aveley).

Complete contrast with what I found when I had the MG & Rover, most remaining dealers are primarily Pug and Citroen dealers who do MG Rover as a sideline and the 3 of them I've had dealings with don't know anything about the marque and couldn't care less it seems Undecided. Last one I went to tried to deny that there was such a thing as a turbo'd version of the K Series engine (like I was lying or something Roll Eyes), when all I went in there for was a coilpack. I did take him outside and show him the car and pointed to the turbo but I still don't think he believed me Grin

And now I lust after vintage cars, lol Smiley

You'll learn fast mate, i'll only be giving supervised guidance lol. best way to learn is to get stuck in and do it, ive got 90% of the bits needed now, the last 10% is the unknown parts we'll need.

First job will be fitting that grill and lights, then the auto box linkage. because once the engine is apart its not going anywhere lol

Good man Matt I always say the best way to learn is hands on.  I have most of the parts needed for my new scorpio that I know I need.

Daniel will be a pro by the time he has done all the work on his car that he wants to do on it lol.

Looking forward to getting it running properly now.  Smiley Craig might be coming round next saturday to have a look at the paint too.

to be honest mate it wont be yet that i get one, compared to the engine work its  just a little job that can wait i suppose. But i either want to stay pre facelift or go all the way with the facelift. Lights front and back, grill, bumper, i will need a new rear bumper too but i think they are all the same arnt they?
