Hastings direct insurance rip off merchants.

Hi everyone. Got to warn potential Hastings direct motor insurance customers about a rip off they are doing. I had a quote for my daughters Nissan Micra from them and set up direct debit for monthly payments. Before the 14 day cooling off period ended they asked for proof of no claims bonus and a copy of the logbook which I sent.Today a couple of days outside the cooling off period I get a call saying they want another £50 due to wrong information being provided by me. This turns out to be that when I did the quote I could not remember the exact purchase date of the car which was 2 years ago so I had a rough guess but it turned out to be different to the date in the logbook by a few weeks and therefore there was a £35 admin charge and their underwriters Advantage ICL who incidently are the same firm but based offshore in Gibraltar wanted £15 to update information . What the hell has a purchase date got to do with insuring the car two years later.. I could understand if I had with held details of the car say performance parts fitted or the like . I have since looked at their feedback which is appalling. Avoid Hastings Direct.

premier insurance are as bad. I bought a car that had been a cat c write off but the seller did not tell me so I did no tell the insurance company. After 8 months the called me and said because I had not told them they were going to charge me £80 to amend my insurance charge me a extra £200 for the insurance and put my excess up to £1300 yet the car was only worth £500 and I had to pay up or get black listed by all insurance companies.

Well it is a very sad world when if you tell the truth they clobber you but if you tell lies they reward you. Thinking about it it is exactly what this government are doing by telling lies to get people hating eachother so they can steal tax payers money lol.

Also watch, Equitine red star, I had an agreed value of £2500 on my car untill I changed the number from my Granada scorp to the scorpio. They then put on the insurance that they would only pay the market value at time of loss. When I asked them about this, they said they would only give the agreed value if it was left in a locked garage when not in use. They have not got my custom this year.

The problem is ALL insurance companies are profit making entities. Yet, it is a legal requirement to have car insurance. Hence, a legal requirement to make a profit for these scrupulous faceless charlatans. I have nothing but utter contempt for ALL of them.
I treat them ALL as legal thieves.
Whatever, the made up price is you MUST pay it to be a law abiding citizen.
There is no viable alternative to car insurance. This creates a monopoly cartel.
Insurance is an excellent and valid product but market capitalism has ensured this sector is unchecked and tilted disproportionately towards the provider.
I pay my premiums under duress.

I have argued with them and after threatening to bad mouth them on the web and not use them in future they have dropped the rip off fee to £16. But that is still ripping me off and they will lose the business next year.

I took out insurance through autonet insurance last month and now they want a copy on my licence. After sending them a copy of my paper licence ( as DVLA would not accept my birth certificate as proof of identity) they now say they can not accept a paper licence and are going to cancel the policy but I still have to pay the full price of a years insurance even though I don't have it. They are supposedly putting me on the insurance black list so I will have to pay twice as much if I can find someone else to insure me. This is legalised theft.

Did you pay by credit card, you may get your money back from them. Also you could go to the insurance onbuds man about them.

A paper licence is still a record of your class of vehicle to drive but if you do not have a photo card licence you will have to give photographic proof and it is usually your passport. I had to do that the last time I hired a vehicle!

I would certainly think about going to the ombudsman about this matter if it is all as you state.

I have asked the ombudsman to look at this but they have to wait for the insurance company to work their way through the complaints procedure. Insurance companies used to be good but over the last few years they seem to have got very bad by adding hidden clauses so they don't have to pay out or to change the conditions to cost you more money.
I can see the day coming when they will be hit hard for these reasons like the banks have and are being now.

This is another rip off. It would be interesting to know how many people are being treated like this. Something needs to be done. You insure your car to stay within the law yet you are treated like a crook and legally robbed.

Hear hear, most people are utterly fed up with the ever upward spiral of insurers costs and clever antics, they are a bunch of smug illigitimae with an arrogant take it or leave it attitude, and it's well past time they were seriously examined, there could also exist a cartel to reinforce their smugness, that should definitely be brought to book  Huh Angry

Swinton is another one. I took out car insurance with breakdown cover with them 6 years ago. They doubled the price at renewal so I went elsewhere. I then noticed they had taken money from my bank account and the reason according to them was that the law states that I needed car insurance and even though I had told them I would not renew with them I did not tell them who I was going to insure my car with so they recon that meant they could renew my insurance under the law without my permission. they refused to give me my money back and tried to take me to court for the full amount of the policy.
On top of this they had renewed my breakdown cover on 3 policies and 2 policies for a courtesy car and again no money was returned to me.

They could not explain why I would want 3 breakdown accounts for the same car with the same breakdown company either lol.

I have just done a search on google insurance for my scorpio cosworth estate and the cheapest was £1,600 to £6,500. for myself only a 56 year old man with no convictions and driving coaches and lorries all my life. The only thing against me is my last insurance was cancelled by them due to me not supplying a copy of a plastic licence within 2 weeks as it was at DVLA having my new address put on but I did send them a copy of my old licence.

Blimey,  Huh don't know what's special about your case but I've been using Swinton a while now since the broker I used hitherto retired and shut up shop, they took over his business. Always treated me fairly on the whole and tried to find the best deals acting as broker. Is your post code the problem?

I don't think it is the postcode as the original insurance I took out when moving here was around £360 fully comp with full breakdown and home start cover plus upgraded and extended hire car and £1,000,000 private medical cover.

Update on my accident and the stupid insurance.
I was at a standstill at a road junction waiting for traffic when a woman cut the junction and hit me. At court there were no pictures of the damage to my car or statements from witnesses which would have proved it was not my fault. The other side had a letter from my insurance company saying I admitted to them that I caused the accident and that I ran into her so I lost the case.

They awarded her the costs of repairs including a new plastic innerwing even though her wing was only very lightly scratched.
I was fully comp and protected my no claims discount but insurance quotes are amny thousands of pounds now because it seems I have lost my NCD and the insurance company just say tough sh*t when I put in a complaint. It seems Premier my insurance company is connected to LV who seem to own most of the insurance companies so are they fixing the outcomes of accident claims so they can can rip off people with big NCD?
