2.3 auto estate MPG?

Hi all
As some of you know my parents sold their last scorpio in november 2012, and brought a mk3 mondeo estate. 1 Year on and the mondeo isnt holding but too well. It has done the same if not less miles this year than any of our grandas or scorpios have done for the last 17 years, but we have all noticed it slowly becoming tired. Still only done 95k miles. So.... they have been looking round at all sorts of estates and they keep getting pulled back towards the scorpios  They are looking at a nice 2.3 auto estate , but are abit worried at the mpg compared to the mondeo. The mondeo is a 2.0l petrol manual estate. So would a 2.3 auto scorpio estate be much worse?
What does your 2.3 do?

Not driven my Scorpio 2.3 auto estate in a while but from memory :
My daily 2 mile drive to the train station & back gave about 17mpg
When I used a different train station about 9 miles away I used to get about 23mpg
On a good long run with sensible speed on motorway around 30mpg

I wonder what the mondeo does in comparison? It hasnt got a trip computer so it would take abit of figuring out.

hi there
my mondeo h/back does about 23mpg at 13mph about town (rarely getting fully warmed up).
on a run anywhere from 35 to 39mpg.

Just to add, my 2-3 estate, best reading on a long run was 31 mpg! i was quite impressed with that at the time, On balance i think i would go for a 2-3 again in future, after the 2-9.
