Gosh what an old Dog! I'm mechanically minded and wouldn't touch that with a Barge-Pole. A labour of love is right, it'd take too much to get that looking good again. How much would that have been new?

Another old adage is, "you don't look and the 'Mantle-Piece' when your poking the fire, especially if the coals are hot! I remember years ago having an old MK1 Consul 2.5 Estate, and old 'M' reg if I'm not mistaken. Jeez it was a real old rust-bucket, and it wasn't really that old. I remember thinking I'd rather have my old Zodi' MK4 back, at least it was still fairly rust free. Nah, it's a personal thing, but I never really liked the MK1 Granada, I do remember taking my Consul for an MOT and even with the sills like paper-mash, it passed, something to do with the sills not being structural on these cars I think? It didn't help that it was that horrible light-green colour!

The high bidder is probably a mate trying to bump up the price & you can guarantee that the winning bidder will end up not paying for this piece of fire damaged rubbish that is worth £1500 to £2000 max. It doesn't even have the 3.0 litre V6 Essex engine in it !!....The 2.0 pinto in a car of this weight would struggle to pull the skin off the proverbial rice pudding....& it doesn't sound very Macho either You'd have to be either a bit simple to bid this high....or simply, a bit too high

I must say the big seats in the Granada Mk1 were very comfy on long trips.

Sold for £5050.50 to a high bidder with only a feedback of 4 The plot thickens.... Either it's been bought by an eccentric millionaire who likes throwing money to the wind (if he could throw it my way, then it will be very much appreciated & used to pay off the wolves at my door)....or the high bidder is a patient in an institution for the insane who has managed to gain access to the house computer..... .....Or of course, it could be a selling scam by the dealer, who will readvertise it again 'due to time wasting high bidder' in order to get a price not necessarily too close to what it supposedly was going to be sold for, but to get a price that is far beyond what it is really worth Or am I just being cynical ?

On a slightly different tack, but a similar dodgy situation, there is a Commer fire engine on ebay that has been sold by the same man several times,it was sold again last week and lo and behold it's back again. He always goes down the 'private bidder' route, like JC I may be cynical, but am always wary of anything advertised in that way

Different theory...if someone was restoring a Mk1 Granada, getting hold of a decent rust-free shell for £5k might work out a better / cheaper option than sourcing replacement panels and fixing up a rotten one. Mk1 panels are now HTF and expensive. If the car was never registered then the shell is effectively 'new' and could probably be used quite legally for a re-shell.

The common scam is to offer it to the under bidder saying the high bidder pulled out. It was much easier to catch these shill bidding scams before eBay hid buyers identities. I’ve had a few kicked off eBay in the past when you could track bidding patterns of the other bidders.
