Different theory...if someone was restoring a Mk1 Granada, getting hold of a decent rust-free shell for £5k might work out a better / cheaper option than sourcing replacement panels and fixing up a rotten one. Mk1 panels are now HTF and expensive.
If the car was never registered then the shell is effectively 'new' and could probably be used quite legally for a re-shell.

It doesn't look particularly rust free to me  Wink.... & it's obviously been stored outside for a while, so who knows what condition the chassis is in ?.....although, I must admit, most of the body panels do look to be in reasonably good nick with what looks like surface rust....but it's what's underneath that matters....rust does tend to start on the inside & work it's way out  Wink

Body panels aren't that hard to come by....you can still get fibre glass front wings (won't rust) & good metal ones do come up every now & then. New rear wheel arches are about £25 each & you can still buy whole rear quarter panels. You certainly wouldn't have to spend anywhere near £5000 to get any or all of these panels.
Doors, bonnet & boot don't tend to rust that badly, so do also come up on Ebay every so often for a fair price. Bottoms of doors do tend to suffer sometimes though, but new metal can be welded in or if not too bad, can be ground down to bare metal & skimmed over with filler.
The rear seat looks a little beyond repair to me. They only usually get sunbleached & split at the top of the rear part of the seat & not the actual seat itself (more evidence of long term outside storage).

Also, not forgetting the mechanical issues it is likely to have. Having been stored for the whole of it's 38 year life (inside & outside) then I'd have thought practically every moving part would have to be replaced. Most rubber bushes & seals would have surely perished in that time & any part of the drive chain that needs oil would be seized or almost seized due to lack of lubrication.

I wouldn't even like to start making a list of what will need replacing for an MOT & whoever buys it could well end up spending what they bought it for again, just to get it roadworthy  Huh

MK1 Granadas aren't that desirable compared to MK1/2/3 Capris, MK1/2 Escorts & tend to fetch far less money.

Usually a fully restored MK1 Granada in pristine condition would fetch around the £5000 mark & £7000 absolute tops  Smiley

Thus spake the oracle  Cool Never were truer words spoken,we all know that lack of use and inactivity applies to mechanical devices as well as the human machine, and if exposed for lengthy periods to the elements a sort of 'bio degrading' takes place and the article eventually returns to the place from whence it came.Low mileage means little,it's the circumstances under which it has been kept that really count, this particular vehicle has obviously been badly neglected, therefore is worth very little because as JC points out resurrection costs would be unthinkable.
