So your saying that its possibly a big end bearing? Good luck mate! I would make sure first....pull the sump off and make sure, Someone had a problem with timming chain guide falling in to the sump bloking the outlet,...could be something simple. JJ

Update have just taken delivery of the the car and the knocking seems to be not like a bigend bearing unless one has gone. Nothing on tick over rev and you hear knock knock. Ideas

I agree, get an expert to check it, just make sure it is not something like a loose eliment in one of the cats, mind you that tends to sound more rattley than a knock.

Thanks, but i never put trust in others where my bank balance is concerned, id rather strip, examine and rebuild were necessary the cost of two hours in a garage with someone guessing what is wrong gives me a gasket kit and then i am sure plus everything ielse can be checked. Been building cars for years, seems like ill be doing my first cosworth soon.

One thing to try is to put the car in D and see if the knock gets worse at idle. If it does then it does sound like bottom end bearings - they sound worse under load. Get a doctors stheoscope for a few quid off Ebay - I always have one in the car for diagnostic purposes and it helps you identify where the noise is coming from - it could be crankshaft end float (watch the bottom pulley when reving the engine to look for movement) You can remove the sump to get at the crankshaft shells with the engine in the car if needed unless you want to do the full rebuild as was done on the website. Good luck Steve
