Scorpio tale... suddering, shaking, leaking &

My gf, Siani, bought a 1998 Scorpio 2.3 Ultima Estate with 110,000 miles on the clock, FFSH, one owner, for £2995 from a dealer in September. The usual disclosure was done, and suspension, brakes and steering were all marked as needing attention and rectified. They also offered to replace a headlight with a stonechip - when we collected it they'd taken the lights from an M-plater and put them in! We made them replace the proper dark kind. She loves the car, but not the reliability, or the fact that the dealer has been so bipolar - replacing all sorts of silly things, yet by the same token refusing to replace the bottom arms, refusing to acknowledge the vibration on braking. Stupid thing is, they replaced the disks and I suspect they were faulty (new discs cured it, at our expense this time after only 8.000 miles). Likewise, the lower arm resulted in one front tyre being shredded and needing replacement again after only 8,000 miles.

It just failed the MOT on the balljoints, after we've taken it back on a monthly basis to try and get vibrations in the front fixed. It was supposed to have this done, so we're well annoyed, however... Such is life.

Current problems: Rust. Door, rear arches, small amount on the sill. How do you go about fixing this right - can you replace rear arches? Are there any Scottish specialists who can deal?

Coolant leak. The garage has replaced the sensor and thermostat after the latter failed and they refused to take my word for it being a stuck open 'stat. They also replaced the housing and inlet manifold after a leak appeared, probably because of their work replacing the 'stat. The matrix is leaking. Any specialists who can do this? The dash removal scares the crap out of me, and I've worked on big Citroens.

Shuddering: Occasionally, the car shudders as if it has a rough idle when put into reverse. Shutting down and restarting usually sorts this. Sounds like a coilpack flaking out, except it's nearly always /just/ when put into reverse. We had the box fluid changed (drop sump!), and generally the gearbox behaves well.

Parts: Car makers are supposed to supply parts for 10 years. However, the headlight washer cover broke (my fault) when I unstuck it after pushing it into the bumper when washing the car - I can't get another. Surely this isn't right.

Finally, at her insistence - does anyone want a FSH, two owner 2.3 Ultima with 4 brand new BF Goodrich tyres (cost £400), 12 months MOT (second opinion gave the balljoint an advisory), 120,000 miles on the clock, all toys working with the exception of the sunroof - the rubber seal has bumped up at the top and prevents it sliding back - and in need of slight rust repair to the door (documented on this site), osr wheelarch and doorstep, a heater matrix (or radweld if you're that way inclined) and balljoints? £3,000.

When we got it, the asking price seemed £2.000 cheaper than any other dealer. Since buying it the car has had:  New front and rear discs and pads, new thermostat, new temp sensor, new inlet manifold and thermostat housing, gear linkage serviced, all fluids including power steering fluid changed, new battery.

Car is taxed until September, and is black metallic.
