Remote Key Fob Problems

I think that the range of the remote is supposed to be approx.30ft? Problem is that my remote would not lock/unlock any disdance from the car so I changed the batteries.
I still have the same problems.I literally have to be next to the drivers door & pointing the remore into the car!!
Where are you supposed to point it anyway?
I then got another second hand remote with new batteries & tried that but I still have the same problems!! 
I don't have any problem with opening the boot though 
Has anyone got any ideas what going on & what I can do to fix the problem

Hi I also had this problem along with flickering dashboard needles etc I sought advice and as a result had my car battery checked and found that there was a slight discharge that was causing these problems hey presto replaced battery and all was ok including remote I know it seems profound but at least have your main battery checked out and go from there and best of luck.

Does anyone know which part in the vehicle does the actual signal receiving from the remote?

Thanks Kenboy...seems a drastic solution but I had seen your posting with your needle problem.
I will get my battery checked out & see if it's OK!!
I see that ALLANTE also asks what part of the vehicle does the remote signal go to.
I wondered that as well

I have an Ultima but was not supplied with any remotes, just standard keys. Is there any way of telling whether my car has remote central locking? Where do we locate remote senders?

As far as im aware, and i will stand corrected on this, all ultimas had remote locks. I suppose to check you could always try turning your ignotion key from the off position to the 1 position 4 times in a row and see if it chimes (the signal to programme a new remote).
You can still buy new ones from ford but they are £84.00!!
