autobox oil top up

Have a 95 2.0l 16v ultima auto that has a gearbox in need of a bit of a drink.
What type of oil does my autobox need and am I right in assuming I top up via the dipstick pipe?

Check the fluid after a god run so that the fluid is HOT then move the gear leasver triough the gears two or three times then check the level.. if it requires fluid pour in the required anmount down the gear box dip stick tube......
If it needs a lot check that ther are no leaks as it is a sealed unit and should NOT require any fluid...
the pipes under the readiatopr are favourite for corroding and leaking...

have checked the level whilst hot a couple of days ago and it was a little low. Not scary low but it could do with a little more. Thanks for all the advice.

Hi M8. Ive having my cooler pipes replaced at the mo and the I have been told by fords that dextron 2 is used on these boxes.

Hi there I paid about £7or £8 for a litre from fords last month. and applies it through the dip stick.

Yep, dextron 2 is the oil you want. it wont take much to top it up so go carful with the amount you put in, try about a cupful at a time.
