Took  a long ride in my 2.3 ultima today and when starting off about 20 miles into the journey noticed mt temp needle was down around the blue mark. Thought this a little odd so turned the heating system on to manual and surely enough the needle rose up to the middle mark where it should be. anyone have any idea why this is happening?

could it be the temperature switch located on the block ?,just a thought as had a similar problem on an old granny, cost about £8.00,and very easy to fit, just needs topping up a little after the job is done..

Hi
funny thing, that. On a long run my temp needle wanders back and forth between blue and midway all the time. I just assumed it was the electric fans kicking in and out.
perhaps it isn't  Huh Huh

its most probably a stuck thermostat thats why needle desends to blue mark when you slow up or stop needle will very quickly go back to midway you might possibly have no stat at all. watch you dont crack inlet manifold undoing the three bolts 200 quid for new one

I had exactly the same fault on my 2.5 TD.
Turned out to be the temperature sender in the cylinder head.
According to the local Ford dealer, it's a common problem with the sender.

I had the problem too and was definitely the temp sender.

About £12 I paid last weekend and fiited it, sits near the top of the water pump, fine now.
