Oil Sump Removal

Hi Guys does anyone know if the sump on the 2.9 Cosworth engine can be removed with the engine still in the car ? also how big a job is it to change the front crankshaft oil seal ? cheers Dean

The engine sump can be removed with the engine in the car, but i would only do it if absolutely necessary. The engine needs to be lifted up slightly and the suspension subframe lowered slightly. Several items need to be removed before you can remove the sump. Once off, you will need to remove the old gasket which is a b*****d to get off. Superglue is easier to remove. Get your scraper out and a stanley blade. Good luck.

Steve its the oil seal at the front of the engine below the water pump behind the bottom pully (crankshaft pully) i have priced it up and is about £9 from ford Dean

If its the crankshaft Oil seal that you are going to renew then there is NO NEED to remove the sump..... If you email me off site on hmacsnoopy@hotmail.com I will send you the info that you need to do the job and also how to get the sump off if you need it.... Cheers Snoopy
