Unprogrammable remote?!

Just purchased a remote fob for the scorp...was looking forward to receiving it for ages! Car didn't come with one when I bought it.
Followed the forum's instructions to program the remote...key to pos. 1 5 times....'beep', press 'unlock' turn off car....'beep'.......no effect, remote not working!...Opened remote up to check battery, looks fine (looks new!)....tried several times, still nothing!

Any idea what's wrong?.... Wrong remote?....Car not fitted with remote sensor? (central lock works fine, inc. double lock and window open/close.....'program' mode 'beeps' audible through procedure of key turns)Huh Huh

I'm also trying to get my remote working this morning with no luck.

Just to confirm the procedure that has always worked for me in the past....

...Ignition switch to position 1 and off three times. Then switching to position 1 the fourth time should result in a chime. Press the unlock button on the remote and you should get another chime immediately. Finally switch off ignition and IIRC there is a final chime as you exit programming mode.

Hope this is of help.

PS I think I need a new key fob!
Has anyone else had a remote which gets locked into permanent transmission when a button is pressed?
I'm assuming there should only be a Tx burst of a second or so.

You can also try this method

Put key in ignition to position I
Press lock button until bong sounds (if this does not work try same but unlock button!)

The remote for the Scorpio seems unique - where did you get the remote, what are the numbers on it?

You can also clean the pads up by taking it apart - the tracks on the PCB can get gummed up and possibly lock it 'on'!

Cheers

mine doesnt chime when i press the unlock button during programming, just when i do the key turn thing and when i switch it off. it programmes ok though.
Just worth mentioning, double check your batteries! I had the same prob, i got new bateries from a tv shop and still nothing.  mentioned it to my fmd, he put new batteries in (again) and bingo!

(it does however chime instantly when i program the memory seat with it)

Thanks guys, I will try all suggestions!
The only things (numbers) quoted on the back of the remote are:
'Ford Werke AG'
XW4T-15K601-BB
TXRE*CEPT-LPD
0682
'Type approval number: see owners manual.

I bought the fob online at e-bay from a guy advertising the remote as a ford remote, quoting, amongst others, the Scorpio as one of the cars the remote is appropriate for.

Remote is in 'as new' condition, battery looks new and terminals are clean.

My fob has 95GP-15K601-AB (brand new and works!)

Will try and look up your numbers later but I wonder if it was for the Granada Scorpio - did he specify which Scorpio?

Cheers

Thanks guys....I feared this might be the case. Sad
Quite annoyed at the bloke that advertised the remote for sale as a remote for use on several cars (inc. scorp). Perhaps I'll put it back on ebay as a Porsche or Jag remote!....That way I may get all my money back!

Anyone out there got an XKR??!!!
