Door balancer / door catch

Hi all!
Yesterday a sudden rush of wind captured the drivers door of my Scorpio and throw it open. 
The door balancer/catch (I'm not sure about the right word.  ) got broken. 
1.) Is it possible to replace the plastic door catch from the Scorpio II with the metal one from the Scorpio I?
2.) Do the mountings match?
3.) Do I have to remove the door trim or is it possible to replace the item from the side of the door?
