Alarm problem

I really hope someone can help with an easy asnwer to this.
 
I've an M reg Scorpio Ultima (2.0 auto) which has been off the road for a couple of years.
 
Last autumn I removed the battery, ready to charge it up come spring and get the car back into running order.
 
Tried fitting the (charged) battery today, but as soon as I try to connect up the neg cables (pos already on) the alarm goes off!
 
Help!!!

you could try two things here. connect the battery up and when the alarm starts to go off, unlock both the driver and the passenger door with the key (Anti-clockwise Driver Door) and (Clockwise Passenger Door) the alarm should now stop. If it doesn’t, disconnect the battery again, close all the doors and the boot and use a heavy item to keep the bonnet switch held down. try reconnecting the battery. (Some alarm systems disconnected in the ARM state will remember and think the car is being attacked on powering up).  
 
if the alarm gets really irritating, disconnect the horn behind the battery. if your not bothered about using the alarm at all, disconnect the multiplug to the bonnet switch and the alarm will not activate upon locking the car.

UPDATE
 
Realised the neighbours weren't back from work yet so just gave it a go.
 
You Sir are a star - unlocking the passenger door (driver door already unlocked) with the alrm hooting away did the trick!  (Weighting the bonnet switch - the first thing I tried - had no effect).
 
Car started up immediately too - first turn of the key and with no "churning".  Can't be bad after 2 years idle.
 
Now I've just got to fix a serious leak from the power steering system (think it's the hose running down from the reservoir) - the reason I stopped using the Scorpio in the first place.  There's also a horrible graunching noise on applying lock, which appeared after the power steering fluid problem, when I gave the car a test run once, but (after reading some of the earlier posts on this great site) I suspect (hope!) this may just be air in the system.

One trick withj the power steering is to turn it from lock to lock a couple of times this usulaly shofts any loose air pockets and should do the trick.. Just as a matter if interst the Steering rack is NOT a terribly hard job to do.. and if its not got the sensotronic then it also not too expensive....

No problem mate, glad you got it sorted.
 
Just think, if you hurry and get your car sorted by the end of the week you might even make the Derby meet, get some OBD diagnostics done on your car etc.. Grin

If you have a leak and the fluid is low then full lock could damage the pump.
 
May I suggest, Jack up and support front end.
Remove plastic undertray
 
 Favorite for a leak is the rack to pump pipe,connects to the pressure switch,It runs across a thick steel block that wears a bloody big hole in the pipe.
 
Another chafing point is the bottom pipe from the cooler (under rad) to the rack,its snakes around behind the pump and rubs up against the supporting bracket at the rear of the pump.
 
If you need any advice on replacing either give me a buzz,I have just replaced both (£30 and £90)
