Just failed the MOT as a result of high Carbon Monoxide emission so it looks like I'll have to fork out for a new cat. Has anyone who has carried out this job themselves any advice on how difficult it is on this model?

Not easy but not impossible. What makes you think its the CAT.How many miles has the car done? Check the wiring to the lambda sensor,on mine they were chafed through and shorting at the entry point to the sensor. If you go with the cat,I'd strongly suggest the ford one as a couple of members ran into problems with other makes. eddie

I am also not sure whether it is the CAT. At my last car check-up at the dealer I also had a high CO. There was a crack in my exhaust manifold. I had to buy a new manifold. Maybe have a look there.

Just remembered, take at good look at EGR pipes (rubber)between manifold cover and pressure sensor (DPFE) on the inner wing, look for splits/holes. How many miles on the clock, mine was up to 230,000 before cat needed changing and that was because the outer casing was rusting away,it was still functioning otherwise. eddie
